So it seems for items Amazon is delivering within a day or two they have set up a fleet of local freelance delivery people. I won't even get into them taking work from Unionized Post Office and UPS workers. But I will say that millions of people live in Apartments and Condos. The Postal workers and UPS drivers have access to our building, so they can leave packages. But these random people in their delivery vans don't. So they can't deliver if I am not home. I am not ordering from Amazon so I can stay home all day to wait for a delivery. Feels like a big misstep.
And please, if you only want to chastise me for buying from Amazon, don't bother.
And I do realize this is very much a First world problem.

they can do that - maybe they're not available to do it in your area?

the way I always get Amazon packages. I have a PO Box so it gets delivered to my PO Box address. Of course I have to go in and get it from postal workers, but Im there anyway to get my mail, so no big deal-except at Christmas when its really busy.

(34,135 posts)My local PO "lost" too many packages, Amazon and other wise. Then they simply would not look for them, just told me to contact Amazon and re-order the "lost" items.
It wasn't just Amazon, it was also medical supplies that got "lost" - and I put quotes around the word since it was too consistent and the higher ups at that PO branch were obviously making no effort to find out what was going on.
I still get my important mail delivered to the PO Box since my street box is not secure and not visible from anywhere on my property. But packages come to the street address and the lady that delivers the mail is very good about bringing packages straight to the house.

(5,624 posts)problem...high winds here and it was a VERY SMALL item, so no package on the porch. I was home all day and no one rang the bell or knocked on the door, etc. We do have a MAILBOX. So now, I'm trying to find out how to get a replacement, etc., from the vendor. So, they delivered a day early and it's lost.

These cameras are so cool. They give you the ability to see and talk to someone at your door remotely. You can get alerts to your phone when something has been delivered, when someone is walking onto your porch, etc.
Theyre really useful.
if your package is lost, and they have 'proof of delivery' via the tracking number, you are shit out of luck.
