If we take back the Senate, what are the chances the legislative branch (Original Post) Baitball Blogger Feb 2020 OP
None. "Veto proof" requires 2/3rds of both houses unblock Feb 2020 #1

If its a Dem Legislature, it's a Dem president.

Regardless, no Gun Control proposal would be able to circumvent the Filibuster. 67 Dem Senators is not happening in 2020.

Who knows? Maybe Republicans will see the light and voting against a Sanders presidential veto might help them decide to go bipartisan on a gun bill?

If you look to the near past, what the parties have been doing is stepping over the line to co-opt the other's platform. The best example is during the Clinton years when he dropped Democratic issues to agree with the Republicans on matters such as welfare reform and banking deregulation.

Republicans have done the same thing, though I can't come up with quick examples. The bottom line is that they look for issues to steal the Dem president's thunder. What would be more immediate, than an issue that has 80% support from the public? Gun reform. Bernie won't do it, so it's possible that Republicans who want to define Bernie as the gunner's grim reaper can once again show that politically, anything goes

It would be interesting to see what happens, since we have seen major philosophical switches since the 60s when the racist Southern Democrats began to migrate into the Republican party.

So desperate he was to get the Lyin' King's judges confirmed, and the One-Percenter Tax Cut, that he went "nookyular." I was thinking that's still the rule until further notice...?

McConnell's obstruction forced Reid's hand, and now McConnell has no restraints on Judges.

...or was it Kavanaugh?

Or maybe it was one of Trump's looney tunes Cabinet appointments, like Dummy DeVos?

It was certainly done after Trump took office.

were blocking Obama's appointments. McConnell eliminated it for Supreme Court nominees. The filibuster still applies to legislation (except for "budgetary reconciliation" legislation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress) ).
Note that the party that controls the Senate can modify the filibuster at any time.
