Candidate Suspends Campaign After Heroin Overdose

February 24, 2020 at 4:15 pm EST By Taegan Goddard 78 Comments

Chris Taylor (R), who is seeking the Republican nomination to face Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ), overdosed on heroin last week and since has suspended his campaign, the Arizona Republic reports.

Said Taylor: “I’m not going to hide from this. I’m not ashamed of what happened. I wish to sincerely apologize to the amazing people who have supported me. I don’t know what went wrong. I recently relapsed after having so many solid years in sobriety. I have to figure out where I went wrong.”

I’m always glad when a Republican drops out of a race, but I don’t wish this on anybody or their family.

Adderall addiction? Different story, at least in one case.

Being a Repub seems to me like it requires a whole lot of denial and self-loathing.

Why in tarnation isn’t he ashamed???

He OD’ed on heroin. He SHOULD be ashamed. That is shameful.

I will never understand the republican mind. What would it take for him to be shamed? Be caught doing something decent, upright, and good?

Shame isn't helpful.

Hence the "I have to figure out what happened".
