The arresting officer, Dennis Turner, was later fired by the Orlando Police Department following the September arrest of the student. The charges against the girl were dropped and her record was expunged.
I was a police officer for 23 years, and I was in the military before that. All Ive ever done is to serve my country and my community. Thats all I have to say about this, Turner said.
Orlando Police Department officials previously declined a public records request to release the body camera video showing Kaia Rolles arrest at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy on Sept. 19, 2019, citing student privacy issues, however, the familys attorney was given a copy and shared it with local news outlets.

If she were bigger shed be wearing regular handcuffs, Turner replies, adding he previously arrested a 7-year-old.
Turner said out of the 6,000 people hes arrested, Kaia now has broken the record as the youngest person hes arrested.

problems at this level? Are school boards ok with this too? At best it's a reflection on what's gone wrong here in the U.S. at every level of our society.

Orlando police officials said last year that department policy requires that an officer obtain approval from a watch commander before arresting anyone under the age of 12, which didnt happen in Kaias case.
Officer Dennis Turner was fired as a result of the controversial arrest.
An internal affairs investigation released Thursday shows that the sergeant on duty that day should have contacted a watch commander but never did, even as the transporting officer repeatedly expressed concern.

As a result of failing to follow department procedure, the sergeant was ordered to serve an eight-hour suspension, which he did by forfeiting personal time he had accrued.
