Trump fails to eat anything prepared in India

Donald Trump and his entourage reportedly failed to eat a single item of a special vegetarian feast prepared for him during his trip to India. The American president and his wife, Melania, were presented with the menu during their visit to Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad.

In an effort to please the famously carnivorous tastes of the president, the chef — a well-known award-winning chef called Suresh Khanna — adapted a number of famous Indian delicacies to make them more recognisable for their guests and even included more familiar items such as chocolate-chip cookies and apple pie. But neither Mr Trump nor the First Lady touched anything from the special high tea menu.

Mr Trump is infamous for enjoying a classically American diet, featuring cheeseburgers, KFC, extremely well-done steak with ketchup, Diet Coke, and ice cream among his favourite dishes. Many commentators wondered how he would fare during his two-day trip to India, whose population includes more than a billion Hindus who revere the cow as sacred and about 500 million vegetarians.

Thankfully for Mr Trump, later during his visit he stayed at a luxury hotel in New Delhi, where the presidential suite had been amply stocked with Diet Coke and cherry vanilla ice cream in advance of his arrival. The Indian newspaper Kerala Kaumudi reported the hotel had also provided the delegation with their own private chef who could prepare “any kind of cuisine or food they want”.

...."racism" before using it.

But when I considered the way he talks about Latinos, Muslims; his policies that hurt POC and his comment about non-specified "s**thole counties"---it seemed like it likely was a form his racism.

Not to mention his horrible birtherism and his obsession with Obama.

Indians often have darker skins than his preferred blonde Christian Anglos. They might evoke his unconscious (conscious?) bias against others who are too Other for him to agree to eat their food.

Wasn't his father KKK connected? I just think the racism runs very deep with Trump. Yes, but for sure a power-play too.

He's shamed us to the entire world.

early on, symptoms may be quite subtle but sufficient to cause concern and embarrassment over seemingly "messy" eating especially with certain foods.

This isn't limited to neurological conditions or dementia perse' as even patients with advanced gastric reflux or hiatal hernia not infrequently experience difficulty swallowing, especially with meat and similar foods and thus become less social around actually-- eating especially in public.

Indian food is spectacular! It's illustrative of what a small man Trump is that he wouldn't try the local foods. His loss, as far as I'm concerned.

There are incredible foods prepared in India: Vindaloo, Curry, Madras, Masala, Bhuna and the seafood dishes are amazingly flavorful. Of course, most Indians do not eat beef but the chicken, pork and seafood delicacies are spectacular.

Trump is really such a small man. If he's afraid to try something new, how does that make him a "strong" man.

The idiot is a coward. Plus, he missed an opportunity that many of us foodies would grab in a heartbeat.

an average American. She's not even like the average American sex worker or average American immigrant.

She was an escort for old rich white men, then she married her sugar daddy. Saw some nudy magazines with her having sex with women and feeling herself up in porn magazines. Clearly she was a successful sex worker. Those other women seem to be enjoying themselves.

No one cares about her, especially not her husband or the sycophants that dress up the white house staff and administration. What excuse does she have for not eating beside her normal rudeness? No one would poison her. She's window dressing. It's like poisoning the furniture. It will have no affect on the future of America or Slovenia.

Unbelievably, almost everyone trooped into the McDonalds like lemmings. i looked across the street and there was a little bar, so I went in there. Sure enough, as I expected, I could order a croque monsieur and une bière pression for less than people were paying for their "Big Mac" across the street. Why on Earth would anyone eat at McDonalds in another country?

Now if you don’t know, Oaxaca is arguably the culinary capital of Mexico. Some of THE BEST food in the world comes out of that part of Mexico.
My students whined and moaned that they couldn’t get chik-fil-a. Every day they whined.
I judged them silently.

They often get used to the same things all the time, particularly fast food, and just aren't interested in experimenting. Sadly, that attitude hangs on for many people all their lives.

Too bad for them.

I actually appreciate his brashness and total disregard for norms in an arena fraught with practiced facades. He's put on display the fragility of our system and highlights the danger of putting too much power in the hands of the executive branch. Maybe now Democrats will see the sense in establishing some limits when/if we regain power again. The president won't always be someone you like or trust.

I normally subscribe to the you should always taste some but don’t have to finish philosophy. That’s what I was taught and what I’ve told my kids. All of us are open to trying new and seemingly weird foods as a result.

There are a couple of things like Uni that I’ll avoid tasting if I can. I can manage a taste without wanting to hurl but I’ve never acquired the taste for it. That never has been an issue because others are happy there’s more for them.

If my guts are bad I’m struggling just to show up and participate. I’ve learned to be very self protective and not even taste and spit out. That does get awkward particularly in cultures where refusing is not polite. The explanation isn’t considered enough. Fortunately I don’t travel for work much anymore.

Of course none of that applies to trump. I don’t really disagree with what you wrote, I’m just giving some extra context

He’s one of the most frightened people I’ve ever seen, and he constantly has to be surrounded by people and things he can feel are safe. I can’t prove it but I suspect that plane is stocked with things he’s familiar with and at least convinced himself he knows where they come from.

Think about it. He has to be surrounded by family, supporters and people he can convince himself won’t hurt him because he pays them or constantly promises them something shiny. If they show the least sign of not being controllable he gets rid of them, not just because of the job they might do but because he is now afraid of them, literally.

The man is deeply paranoid.

trying local cuisine is a big part of the fun of traveling. At the presidential level or even at 5 star hotels they would be used to making sure to avoid using unpurified water because of the many foreign travelers. Any cooked food should be perfectly fine to eat even if tourists don't trust raw produce washed in tap water.

there is a thriving little india not far from me, and we ate there often, and loved it.
but when we were planning the trip, we were warned so many times about eating the food and esp drinking the water.
even our tour guides all but refused to let us sample the street food.
and after a couple days of driving around the country, it is hard not to have a sense of dread settle in on you.

not that he would get anything but safe food, etc, or that he saw any of the poverty and desperation that they pulled a curtain over.
