Great article by The Atlantic about Covid 19. Its a quick 10 minute read and provides great insight to the disease and its spread:
From epidemiologist in the article: Lipsitch is far from alone in his belief that this virus will continue to spread widely. The emerging consensus among epidemiologists is that the most likely outcome of this outbreak is a new seasonal diseasea fifth endemic coronavirus. With the other four, people are not known to develop long-lasting immunity. If this one follows suit, and if the disease continues to be as severe as it is now, cold and flu season could become cold and flu and COVID-19 season.

(52,116 posts)"cold and flu" covers a number of coronaviruses and rhinoviruses. we know there are different strains, but usually don't bother differentiating them unless we're in the business of developing that season's vaccine.
taking a step back from all the hype, it seems that this is basically just another strain of cold or flu.
yes, i get that this strain has a higher mortality rate, but i don't think for classification purposes that's enough to not consider it a cold or flu.

So either your prior premise was incorrect, or you're being hysterical.

(419 posts)And thats what this article explains. While its concerning and worthy of being monitored. A majority of those infected will have mild symptoms. Not me saying that, epidemiologists.

(10,037 posts)One post is about the historic mortality rate of influenza v. Covid-19 and one is about communicability. Kind'a completely different. ...no?
Are we actually reading what people post here or do we just jump on the headlines?

(15,703 posts)it is included in the flu show more people with get the flu show. Can't help but think positively. I personally think the flu shot and pneumonia shots should be mandatory for those eligible like the small pox, polio and others were when I was a kid in the 50's.
But we had a public health system then.
