A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesperson said Wednesday there is a new case of novel coronavirus in Northern California not tied to the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
The spokesperson did not specify where exactly in Northern California the case was located.
This is a breaking news story. Details to come.

(32,626 posts)does it make you so sick you need to see a doctor?
Coventina
(27,088 posts)By the time you are REALLY sick, you have infected everyone around you.
And then, you remain sick for a long time.
The flu hits fast and hard. If it's going to kill you, it's pretty quick.
But at least you get yourself to the doctor much more quickly.

(32,626 posts)there was nothing a doctor could do. The Viral vs. the Bacterial thing. I guess people get so sick it doesn't matter, but then they say not everyone gets that sick. There must be carriers too, that don't get sick. I just don't get how they figure the numbers and statistics, with so much certainty.

(27,088 posts)And yes, the flu and the coronavirus present differently in different patients. It depends on where the virus attacks.
My father in law got the flu just before Christmas this year and the virus attacked his heart and he almost died.
Now he has a heart that works at 30%.

(14,854 posts)When they say "X confirmed cases" they mean X people have tested positive for the virus. That's the number they know with certainty. There's no way to know how many people may be infected who haven't been tested.

(32,677 posts)from an infected region? I'm thinking this is where the surfaces issue kicks in. How long does the virus live on surfaces??
Something is missing here. The stated means of transmission isn't adding up. If it's transmitted like a common cold, I wouldn't be worried because I haven't had a cold in years.
Wounded Bear
(58,620 posts)still very preliminary about the hows and wheres of transmission.
Try to stay calm and watch for results.
