Pence enabled HIV in Indiana, also minimized link between smoking and cancer

"Pence is not a public health expert, either. Instead, as governor of Indiana, he slashed public health spending and delayed the introduction of needle exchanges, which led to the state’s worst outbreak of HIV. He takes over from Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar who has been heading the White House coronavirus task force since the beginning of January.

Yale epidemiologist Gregg Gonsalves, who conducted the research linking the Indiana HIV outbreak to Pence’s policies, tweeted that the decision “speaks to a lack of seriousness by the White House.”

Pence also has a history of downplaying the link between smoking and lung cancer, writing in a 2000 op-ed that “despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill.”

that knows more than they do. Then they bring them to the factory where the heart-attack machine
is strapped across their shoulders. And then the kerosene is brought down from the castles
by insurance men who go check to see that nobody is escaping to Desolation Row

The Dictator knows that he craves ever more power, and the ultimate power is the power over life and death. Trump wants that power, and knows that if he plays his cards right, he can be the deciding hand in spreading death. He's on board with that. Fired up and ready to go.

It's what Trump MUST do. For all of his adult life he's worked himself into this spot. He MUST defy the conventional wisdom, the institutional stability. It's what he's banked his brand on since he reached fame. He thumbs his nose at government, the value of expertise, any moral imperative, and anyone or any thing that causes him to think.

So the coronavirus comes along, and the best way to contain it is to, first, listen to the experts. But Trump's brand is that HE'S the only expert he needs. He can counts the heads on the mall at inauguration. He can get a middle east peace plan in place. He can ride herd on KJU. He can strike a deal with India. He's the master. And by sheer force of will, he can shoo the coronavirus away and keep his stock market in the stratosphere.

Except that he can't do anything-- except lie about everything.

Trump loves to see people suffer. It's a sign of power. He will end up choosing power over life. It's who he is.
