DJIA closes down over a thousand points

Final number may change as things settle.

Down 10% for the week.

Selling into the close.

This meets the technical definition of a correction.

Market Summary > Dow Jones Industrial Average
INDEXDJX: .DJI
25,759.42 ?1,198.17 (4.44%)

Feb 27, 4:00 PM EST ·

Bloomberg radio: "This looks like the worst one-day drop ever." (But that needs to be fact checked).

continue to go up and up and up, all are probably facing margin calls, and thus finally after years and years of a continuing UP market, are now facing the piper. Hopefully most of us have been selling continuously as the markets kept going up (take a little profit off the table), as most analysts recommend.

Also like 600 before that. Now it is down over 1000. Did it get back that previous down of 1500? Dow goes up and down so I do not follow it that closely.

If Dow drops another 200 or so points, all of market gains from 2019 will be wiped out and market was a loser for 2018 too, so we will be back to levels of 2017 wiping out most gains of past couple of years.

It got a good bump roughly the first year of the Trump presidency, that rose steadily, to hit 25520 on the Dow on Jan. 29, 2018. That was the end of the 2016 election bump. It closed today at 25766, up 246 points over the entire period.

It will bring up a little graph of what the Dow is doing today. You can adjust the time frame that it displays from 1 day to 5 days, 1 month, 6 months, etc. You can see the open and closing per day. It's pretty cool how much info you get for typing 4 letters.

I can't seem to copy-and-paste the graph that comes up, but it's pretty useful and has tabs for the day's chart, last 5 days, last month, last 6 months, last year, last 5 years.
