For first time in 10 years, more Democrats than Republicans are registered to vote in NH
CONCORD, N.H. Nearly 41,000 people registered to vote at New Hampshires polling places on the day of the first-in-the-nation presidential primary, helping to boost the total number of registered voters in the state to nearly 1.02 million, an all-time high.
New voter registration numbers released by the Secretary of State on Thursday shows that registered Democrats now outnumber registered Republicans, while the largest voting bloc remains undeclared voters. The Secretary of States records show it is the first time since 2010 that Democrats outnumber Republicans in the state.
Deputy Secretary of State David Scanlan said Thursday the registration numbers will decrease in the coming months as local election officials purge the checklist files to remove the names of people who have relocated to another state or another New Hampshire community but remain on the checklist of their original city or town.
But the raw post-primary checklist data reported by the Secretary of States office showed that as of Feb. 11, there were:
-- 1,018,783 registered voters in the state, slightly more than the 1,009,004 reported after the November 2018 midterm election.
