(8,964 posts)Ring-a-round the rosiekids sing-song rhyme is said to have originated as a reference to the red circular rash common to the bubonic plague that afflicted Europe centuries ago. The "posies" supposedly represent the different flowers and herbs people carried in hopes of warding off disease. The ashes or ah-choo and falling down was supposed to mimic plague sneezing symptoms and eventual death from the disease. Apparently kids from any era up to the present day are capable of engaging in black humor. As for adults, I would anticipate drinking games being developed as we speak involving the popular import beverage Corona beer, possibly offsetting reduced sales by those who are somehow off-put by a stigma associated with that brand name.
