This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the General Discussion forum).

The kinda thing you say when you’re suddenly facing a real challenge to retain your seat and Joe Biden just won your state in a rout.

Lindsey Graham

@LindseyGrahamSC
Congratulations to Joe and Jill Biden, and the entire Biden team, on the well deserved big win in the #SCDemocraticPrimary. Best of luck in the future.
#Socialism goes down hard tonight in South Carolina.

Saying that socialism got defeated in South Carolina is like saying the New York Yankees got badly defeated in last night's game between the Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys.

Get my drift? No? Well, come to think of it, that's OK, too.

And don't blame it all on Trump. The people in control of the Republican party now are the type that considered Eisenhower a socialist for not overturning the New Deal.

...since Joe's a Democrat, if he gets the nomination that's how they'll characterize him. Don't doubt it for a second. They will lean hard on painting the Democrats as the party of gulags and hours-long lines for toilet paper.

But not "getting marching orders straight from the Kremlin". That's a Republican gig now.

swamp creature he's morphed into. And can you doubt it'd be painful even if he were still capable?

He has a staff of dozens of very competent aides to handle what he doesn't want to. "Put out a statement sucking up to the fucking (etceteras)." I'm guessing that including the word "socialism" with every mention of a Democrat is a standing order these days.

watching Biden, a good and decent man who speaks in a good and kind way, and them thinking - we can't act in our usual nasty negative talking way. People in SC will notice the stark distinction.

But noticing tiny acts if kindness gives me hope. Just like when some of the repukes, you could tell, had a lot of respect for Schiff, even though they couldn't and didn't vote to convict Dipshit.

and those close to him are so hypocritical and committed to the massive lies that prop up their self images, and excuse their massive corruption and genuinely evil deeds, that the last thing they'd want is to contrast themselves with Biden. My own best guess was that they were noting Biden's messages but ascribing their own contemptible, morally bereft attitudes to him. The usual.

It continually amazes me to realize that very powerful people can be just as small and stupid as the most uneducated and dishonest of our rural trumpster neighbors. Living big lives doesn't make little people big.

Sun Mar 1, 2020, 02:38 PM
Mar 2020

Well, he's just hedging his bets now - or maybe he can see that the tide is turning and he's trying to latch onto the next winner.

“People try to analyze Lindsey through the prism of the manifest inconsistencies that exist between things that he used to believe and what he’s doing now,” Schmidt says. “The way to understand him is to look at what’s consistent. And essentially what he is in American politics is what, in the aquatic world, would be a pilot fish: a smaller fish that hovers about a larger predator, like a shark, living off of its detritus. That’s Lindsey. And when he swam around the McCain shark, broadly viewed as a virtuous and good shark, Lindsey took on the patina of virtue. But wherever the apex shark is, you find the Lindsey fish hovering about, and Trump’s the newest shark in the sea. Lindsey has a real draw to power — but he’s found it unattainable on his own merits.”
