Thank God My Family Has Cadillac Health Care Coverage

If I am not feeling well, I can go see a doctor, and not lose half a paycheck.

If I need care, I most likely won't go bankrupt.

I realize others are not so lucky.

What the hell is wrong with this country?

Why are only the lucky (hard workers) and other lucky people get great coverage, while millions are screwed if they get sick?

I am so happy my wife worked a horrible crappy job where they gave her zero respect for years. Now she has a better job but it was hard for her to hold on day after day. The fact that she didn't want us to join the health care lottery is sad. The Supreme Court and Republicans can pull the health care rug out from under millions any time they feel like it.

I just wonder how many people will not make it because they don't have workable health care options, or thousands in the bank....

2. Cadillac plans have limits too

In America, no matter what plan you have, you can get sick in a way that can ruin you financially.

I'm seeing that with a family friend right now. Young family man in his early 30s who was a software engineer and had a great healthcare plan for he, his wife, and their 4 kids. Got testicular cancer and had complications due to chemo that caused him to be disabled. He's lost everything just a few years later. Sold their big nice house and bought a small house in a rural community that they could afford now that he's not working. He's on a feeding tube and in constant pain and no one can figure out exactly what's wrong. His major break through last month was being declared fully disabled so he can switch toe medicare which will allow him to visit places like the Mayo and Cleveland clinics to try to get a diagnosis.

They've spent all of their savings on bills, and are barely scraping by now.

The lesson from Michael Moore's Sicko was that your health care plan is not enough no matter how good it is as long as our health care system is a for profit one. He made that movie for people who actually have insurance.

9. Just wait till you really need it. We've been shocked at Anthem Blue Cross lately as they deny....

...coverage we thought we had nailed down. I recently had a total knee replacement and am home still recovering with quite a way to go.

Anthem claimed they never got my MRI and tried to deny the surgery as unnecessary. Anthem tried to deny me in-patient status, and wanted me gone within 23 hours. When I finally went home after 3 whole nights in the hospital, thanks to the concerted efforts of my internist, surgeon, and observing nurses, Anthem tried to deny me any physical therapy. I am sure they are not done with me yet.

Thank God my husband knows how to deal with insurance companies better than I do.

I'm coming along, but it is a hard slog, as expected. But for heaven's sake, as regards the length of stay along with everything else, I have multiple reasons for an automatic admit: age (72), sleep apnea, blood pressure, blood sugar -- and as for the necessity in the first place, my knee was eaten up with osteoarthritis. What did they think this was, a whim?

My husband still works, from home, and what we have is his employer's plan, the "Cadillac" version.
