Brand new Mississippi Senate and Presidential polls

Ugh, this isn't what I had expected. I at least thought the Senate rematch would be close. Anyway here's the Presidential polling:

President Trump has a comfortable lead over both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders among Mississippi voters, regardless of which candidate becomes the Democratic nominee.

According to the poll, if the election were held Thursday with Biden as the nominee, President Trump would get 56 percent of the vote to Biden’s 41 percent.

The president would do even better in a race against Bernie Sanders. If that were the scenario, the poll says President Trump would get 59 percent of the Mississippi votes to Sanders’ 36 percent.

The poll also found that 57 percent of Mississippians approve of the job Trump is doing.

And here's the Senate race:

Incumbent Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith has no party opposition and Democratic challenger Mike Espy is expected to advance easily to November.

In the rematch from two years ago, the Mason-Dixon poll shows Hyde-Smith with a 10-point lead over Espy in the general election, with four percent undecided.

I sent Espy money last time. I graduated high school in Mississippi, but I jave no other connection to the state.

At best we'll lose the presidential race by 10 points and the Senate race by 7. I'm putting my contributions elsewhere, like Arizona.

The worst of his character shines through.
It is a long shot but if the markets tank, the virus spreads in the state, hurricane season response is poor.....there is a lot that can happen.

They would vote for Satan over any Democrat. They are poor because of Republicans. They don't care, because it's all about who's the most anti-abortion, anti-gay, and pro-gun. And that easily goes to Trump. Our candidates are too reasonable.

It's a completely different political climate 44 years later. Back then there were plenty of old white racists who hated Republicans because of Lincoln. Trump ain't losing Mississippi or Alabama period. I hate that it has to be that way, but it is.

total population in Mississippi? If there were a huge turnout, I wonder if that could swing it? Whites in Mississippi & those other states in the old confederacy are complete hardline, koolaid drinkers who just love themselves some white Jayzus.

and Joe makes enough inroads into the blue collar vote we could conceivably do it. I’m delighted Bernie doesn’t care. It’s a bad, bad look and people nationwide can see the disrespect.

Until I heard him referring to the "corporate Dems" who are supporting Biden. . . For me, that was disrespectful to African Americans who have stood behind Biden for years.

And even if those 39% of AA's all get out to vote, Trump is somehow still pulling 5-10% of their vote. Crazy as it sounds, Trump got more of the AA vote in 2016 than Bush, McCain, or Romney. Plus nearly every white is voting Republican, so it's too hard to overcome.

Keep this in mind: Trump has a 57% approval rating there - that's with 39% being African American. That must mean his approval is over 80% with whites there. Insane.

Organizing voter turnout, and vigilance for suppression of voting rights could bring a big surprise. Probably not, but that might be just enough for the Republicans to get overconfident and be in for a shock.
