Pence approval for testing, but it was Cuomo who took the initiative to get the tests developed for use in NY. These NY test kits did not come from the CDC or federal government. A few other states have done the same and got approval from Pence. It relieves some of the load for the CDC.

Occurs to me that Trump might actually prefer no testing in NYC to avoid loss of revenue from people avoiding his properties as the word gets out. His properties are in Manhattan and the covid 19 cluster is in the borough of Bronx, but in crowded NYC, where people use public transportation to go to work, shop, and visit people and sites, it can spread easily.

There are 22 confirmed cases in the Bronx and Westchester County, with 1100+ people quarantined due to contact with infected persons.

They also have used this same method while running the government. If there is some agency that takes care of the public, they don't get rid of the agency, Mitch just de-funds it so there is no money to operate.....

Trump and Mitch had cut the CDC budget by a third just prior to this epidemic????? They also cut funding to the WHO and NIH....

I believe ALL U.S. patients should be transported and treated at Mar a Lago, or his hotel in Washington DC.

The Republicans might get a little more active about this problem when the first cases show up in Washington D.C................

I had to sleep while sitting up in bed and was coughing all night long for over a month. The students were showing each other how to use inhalers since we were all sick. Finally, out of frustration, I went to the local Teachers Union (SDEA) and got real action right away. That whole building was demolished within 5 weeks. I cannot think of one good reason why Trump Administration should think sweeping this under the rug is a good idea, will be of long term use to them before the election, or can avoid costs or panic.

was that this country kept on putting soldiers who'd been exposed back in their crowded camps, putting them on crowded troop ships, essentially guaranteeing that almost everyone on board would come down with the flu. Doctors, from what I understand, kept on begging the President and the Department of the Army to stop doing that but they refused.

The John Barry's book The Great Influenza is amazing and worth the read. More recent evidence indicates that his conclusion that it got started in Kansas is probably incorrect.

But the article was by a health person who went to China to verify and see what was going on. I did not feel he was BSing me. The Chinese have the authoritarian power to pull off what he was talking about.

I wasn't there so I can't guarantee the article. I can't find it quickly. But he went through it and it didn't seem crazy. I do not understand why we haven't been more aggressive on this in North America.

The logic: everyone stays where they are for a month or so
Disease can't transmit beyond where people are.

They have R naught numbers for how infectious. R of 2 means one infected person will infect 2. To stop a pandemic, you get the R number below 1. Then it dies out. That's what they did with SARs for example.

So that's not crazy either.

What we need to be looking at is getting our communities organized towards that objective. (as well as testing kits, supplies, places to treat the ill due to a lack of hospital beds, etc)

Trump doesn't want to test because the number of positive tests we have right now is around 200 people. Trump wants people to die without being tested so he can blame it on pneumonia or the regular flu. If Trump does massive testing which is what we should be doing it will take away Trump's talking points that coronavirus is a nothingburger dreamed up by the liberal MSM and Democratic politicians to damage Trump's reelection chances.

administration in the history of the US, I know there are those here that will bring up Bush at this point..right now I would happily take Bush as our president, over Trump.

I know W was horrible and I detested him and everything he did but even he would be doing, or trying to do, the right thing for the American people.

If patients are not tested then there is no reportable increase in the number of confirmed cases so Trump can continue to go on TV and brag about how wonderful he is and how this virus thing is a hoax because no one is getting sick.

Multiply this one case times hundreds, if not thousands of other people who would test positive if only the test kits were readily available. The CDC has been corrupted by Trump and is no longer a reliable source of public info. Look to the WHO and states like NY, California, Washington, with proactive public health agencies for info.

That's not the problem... It's a dysfunctional adminstration, shaped by an ideology despises any weakness and an ignorant, malignant narcacisst.

Don't blame the institution.

The CDC has been politicized.
This will only facilitate the spread of the disease.
It's a national disgrace.
