... nor is there panic price gouging.
Anybody here have a tale of shortages and panic?
First hand only please, *not* from a media report or Twitter.

(105,866 posts)at least per their inventory online for the various warehouses and my perusal of a couple locales in person. Nor can you order it online.
I'm sure there are other sources, but the big boxes were the first to go.

(12,671 posts)Panic buying of hand sanitizer and bleach. Several things sold out over many different stores. Signs in most grocery stores limiting purchases of wipes, bleach, sanitizer, etc...4per customer. Long lines for check-out...some empty shelves, though all employees were solved and all of the store sanitizers were topped off.
Just what I saw this weekend.
In addition: Gov. Cuomo just announced that the state of NY is producing it's own sanitizers for distribution to Government offices, Prisons, health facilities, etc. Also, if price gouging continues they will sell it for fair market price.

(4,486 posts)They had hand sanitizer at the checkout counter at a local supermarket.
I didn't look for hand sanitizer actually in the aisle.

(105,866 posts)But can't find a big bottle. I may just put out some straight isopropyl alcohol for now.
Love those dry hands.

(18,402 posts)They haven't had it in at least six drugstores, groceries, or chains we've been to (CVS, Target, Costco, Jewel, Trader Joe's, etc).. Fortunately, we already had a modest supply, so I'm not particularly worried.
And Costco didn't have a single roll of toilet paper this past Monday in the entire store. And they said they'd been wiped out since the previous Saturday.

(8,512 posts)I didn't want any, was just checking. I stopped in Castle Pines here in Colorado on my way to the Denver area. Three was tp, but no hand sanitizer at King Soopers. In Pueblo, tp was scarce.
I grew up in an area prone to severe winter weather, so stocking up on things I use a lot has always been something I do. I can easily survive for well over a month without going to a store. Of course I'd have to learn to live without milk in my coffee, and also fresh produce.

(42,419 posts)Work in a hospital They pulled the hand sanitizer from our units because people were stealing them and we want to ensure enough for patients who come in and are put in isolation for any number of infections. (We also get a lot of superbugs with more evolving out there) we are all getting red, cracked hands from hand washing. (There is a protocol for hand hygiene, and you cant not follow it because there is no hand sanitizers)
Have a nurse come in for work terrified when told she couldnt where a face mask all the time. She is originally from China, and her anxiety is through the roof.

(5,479 posts)Several friends told me they couldn't find hand sanitizer anywhere last week. I was in a Dollar Tree early Saturday and hand sanitizer and toilet paper was sold out as well as many other staples such as bandaids and antacids and bar soap and refills of hand soap. Target also had no hand sanitizer, bandaids were in limited supply as were the some of the bar soaps. Large packs of store brand TP was all gone but Target had plenty of more expensive name brands. These stores I visited were also out of alcohol completely and low on peroxide.

(7,493 posts)Only difference was that at Mass on Saturday the priest told us not to touch each other be it holding hands during the Our Father or the Sign of Peace.
Also, no chalice of wine for Communicants - just the the priest.

(6,530 posts)I haven't thought about tp but I haven't seen bleach, alcohol, bleach wipes, or hand sanitizer in a store for weeks. My grocery store is almost out of hand soap.
Also very low on frozen food, particularly bags of frozen vegetables.

(14,118 posts)anti-bacterial sanitizer is NOT effective for viruses. For viruses like COVID-19 we need good old soap or disinfectant preparations. The folks there at WalMart couldn't tell me just what they were providing... Let's be sure to look out for ourselves...

(19,587 posts)They have a limit of 2 on the hand sanitizer but the spaces are all empty. Lots of other cleaning supplies were gone, too. Lysol disinfecting spray and disinfecting wipes, Clorox disinfecting wipes were sold out.

(6,477 posts)Mariano's did have a sign and website banner stating that they were limiting purchase of hand sanitizer. The toilet paper aisles in all stores I've seen are full.
There did seem to be a bit of a push on frozen food in the Mariano's on Saturday, but so far, no panic, no schools closed except Vaughan, all colleges and universities open, CTA running, etc.

(14,442 posts)They are the ones that can't stay home, so they are the ones that need it the most. I have ordered the best I could find... 12 8 oz bottles. Enough till we day and then some for our kids.
None of our CVSs or Costco have any at all. Boston area.
