(12,712 posts)The elderly on SS and SNAP cannot stock up when they barely get by and, like me, skip meals and even have to fast often. So, you could basically get a bunch of dead seniors who starved. That's another way to solve the problem, though.
It would be good to stock up the food pantries, but that involves going out and I doubt if they will start doing deliveries.

(14,091 posts)And theres a good chance towns/cities will start going into lockdown mode with virtually NO NOTICE to speak of - Gov Inslee hinted yesterday they were sort of considering this action, are all Washingtonians ready for this? - and then the panic-factor will be +100,000 and we might have time to run to the store, but the shelves will be stripped bare...
Why wait, dear friends, all that can easily be avoided if we are calm and focused and getting quietly ready n o w, as best we can

(12,582 posts)I made a huge batch of sweet italian sausage vegetable soup. It made 3 meals - 1 for last night, and 2 for the freezer. When I was at the grocery store yesterday, I bought about 10 days worth of meals. When I go again, I'll do the same. Have to clean out our two freezer's first. I'll cook what I can to make dinners for us, but truthfully, there is stuff that needs to be tossed that I've just neglected dealing with. Now I feel an urgent need to get this done and go into squirrel mode. The bill for 10 meals (dinners) was about $175 from Food Lion. I didn't mess with coupons. If I had, I could have done much better. We already have stuff for breakfasts and lunches.
Work has advised everyone (hubby and I both work at the same place) to prepare to self-quarantine and work from home for 14 days or longer once Delaware gets hit. I have a boss who just this morning flew out to St. Lucia for a week. I hope she self-quarantines when she gets back. St. Lucia may be fine, but there is no telling who she was on the plane or in the airport with.
My husband, myself, and our 26yo daughter attended a "Five Wishes" presentation at church yesterday for end of life considerations. They said that anyone filling out any of the forms can feel free to keep a backup copy in their church file and let their families know it's there. I'm worried about our 19yo son. He has a cruise to the Bahamas planned with his girlfriend's family in August, and as of right now, they're all still planning on going. I told him he's young and healthy, but her mom isn't, neither is her grandfather, and his girlfriend herself has T2 diabetes, asthma, and is taking meds that supress her immune system. He should be thinking of them as well.
