Vitamin D3 is a necessary component of our immune systems, yet our bodies cannot make it. We get it from sunlight, food, and supplements.
Clinical data shows that supplementing with a small daily dose of Vitamin D3 (~400 iu) appears to help the immune system fight off viral infections better, especially during winter months when people are stuck indoors with no sunlight.
I'm not recommending taking a Vitamin D3 supplement, just pointing out it may be of benefit at this time.

(17,023 posts)I asked my doc to check my iron levels because Ive been weirdly tired the last few months. Iron is fine but seriously vitamin D deficient which can cause fatigue. Got some coming in the mail tomorrow.

(13,601 posts)I was taking 5000 IU for awhile but it was causing side effects.
I've ramped it down to 1000 IU twice a day and it is much better. When you get your blood drawn for physicals the D can be one of the things they can test for to see if you're below recommended levels.

(2,199 posts)Fat soluble so excess amounts build up in the body, not flushed like Vitamin C.
Glad you got your levels adjusted!

(8,168 posts)Added curcumin which helps a lot with my generalized arthritic pain. I'm doubling up on the curcumin now that the virus is potentially too close for comfort. Seems a really good anti-inflammatory like curcumin could be helpful were I to get the pneumonia part of the infection.

(36,988 posts)Was low on D some years back. Doctor gave me 50,000 units three times a week.
Gave me more kidneystones. Too much.
Now take 2,000 units daily and seems to be a workable level.
