Make mine a dark and stormy! And I still say real refined sugar, as bad for you as it may be, is still probably healthier then the chemically created artificial sweeteners. Which does NOT include stevia and other plant based alternatives...

virus got such a stronghold in Italy and Iran? Does either country have strong business or tourism connections to China? Or, did former cruise ship passengers come from those countries?

I can see how South Korea, Washington state, CA, and NYC became centers of infection. But why Italy and Iran?

If the average length of a flight is two hours, that means six million people fly somewhere everyday.

and Iran? Surely people in other nations also fly.

From the moment I heard about the outbreak in China, I knew it would spread aross the world. Several nations have cases, but only a few have heavy concentrations. It might be useful to know why.

looking for info on the death rate since it is well known that older people are more vulnerable to viruses (and other illnesses) than the general population, so the deaths would be highest among them.

What puzzled me was how such a large cluster of infected people developed in Italy in the first place. Having a lot of seniors would not, by itself, increase the rate of infection, only the rate of deaths of people already infected. The link pretty much answered that for me. A few undiagnosed infected people passed it along to limited numbers. It was the infected hospital patient who apparently caused the infection numbers to jump higher because hospital staff got infected by him. That would spread it to other patients and to more hospital staff as well as to staff families and hospital visitors and their families.

Institutional infections, especially hospitals and nursing homes, can spread it farther and faster than lone individuals in a community. Similar to Washington state. Once it got into a nursing home, the staff, other patients, and visitors picked it up and that increased the numbet of hubs who could infect their families and contacts. In Italy, the custom of cheek kissing and hugging would make the spread even worse.

Maybe health care facilities, patients and staff, deserve priority in testing to help contain the spread in communities, along with schools. One teacher can infect several students and one student can infect teachers and students.
