Donald Trump has feuded with other candidates, reporters and TV networks during his run for president.
Now, the front-runner for the Republican nomination is feuding with Pope Francis.
On Thursday, the pontiff criticized Trump for the proposal at the heart of his campaign: a pledge to keep people from crossing into the United States illegally by building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
"I'd just say that this man is not Christian if he said it in this way," Francis told reporters in a midflight press conference after a trip to Mexico.
"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian," Francis said, according to The Associated Press' translation of the press conference.
Trump wasted no time firing back. "If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS's ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened," Trump said in a statement released by his campaign.
"For a religious leader to question a person's faith is disgraceful."

(9,730 posts)and believe the Pope is the anti-Christ personified. The only thing these two wings of "Christianity" have in common is their insane opposition to a woman's right to control her own body.

(20,875 posts)I do not agree with all of his views but I see he hasn't offered to forgive his sins nor hear his confession for it would be a waste of time and effort.
What the pope needs is a qualified exorcist to to an exorcism on this evil piece of trash from HELL!

Maybe somebody should say, "For a world leader to question a person's faith is disgraceful."
Anybody wanna' wait for the first religious leader or Republican to issue such a statement?

(31,893 posts)In any case, trump visited the Vatican and met with the Pope in May 2017.
Furthermore, evangelicals wouldn't give a rip about whatever the Pope says, since most of them don't even consider Catholics to be Christian.

(7,417 posts)Very proud of all the nuns and priests in their proliferate and locally prominent clan. When they needed annulments, it was done swiftly and quietly, because they have such pull with the archdiocese.
I've been amazed watching the depth of their belief and the customs in which they engage. Raised as a Baptist and now an agnostic, I observe it with fascination.
They are also upper middle class, white Southerners who fulfill the stereotypes that accompany such. They worship the Pope above all others with Trump not far behind. I watch the contortions as they try to rationalize these statements because I fully expect a number of them to take sides against the Pope more openly as time passes.

(14,972 posts)Dump and ISIS leadership probably both have a vague notion that the Vatican, and Rome, is a tremendous bigly deal, but neither Dump nor a random ISIS-guy could find it on an unmarked map without help. "Ultimate trophy?" Oh, please...

(11,885 posts)As trump shows everyone how he does by lying claiming he's religious when even people at his church say he isn't too. Just like he claims he's so smart , but hides all his school records but his teachers says he was a dumb ass, and his health claim is the same. He gets a Dr. to say he's so healthy when everyone knows he isn't and just another lie from trump. You can't be a christian doing the things he's done , and is doing.
