● AL-Sen: On Tuesday evening, Donald Trump endorsed former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville in the March 31 Republican runoff to take on Democratic Sen. Doug Jones. Tuberville is competing with ex-U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions for the GOP nod, and the former coach already looked like the favorite even before Trump tweeted out his support.

(10,207 posts)Youd think hed be a bit more careful...never mind, its Trump. I was watching some poling numbers last night and it was pretty obvious the hold he has over the repukes. There were several polls about the handling of the coronavirus and the majority didnt think he was handling it very well. But at the end they showed a poll of how many thought Trump was doing his job overall and 40% were happy with him. They showed the number thru past years and the 40% was rock solid all thru time. His believers are very solid. I wont conjecture as to why, we all know, but that constant popularity scares the beejeezus out of the rethugs. Once the coronavirus really takes hold any many of his followers and their families get sick I think youll start seeing that number slip. Itll take awhile unfortunately, but once he starts losing that rock solid 40% the rethugs might grow some balls. It will be so funny when they throw him under the bus. I hope it happens sooner than later but probably wont. But I think itll happen.

(12,155 posts)I'm sure plenty of them would think twice before checking the box next to his name, recalling the bitter taste of six straight Alabama losses to a Tuberville-led Auburn team. Oh, sure, there are political considerations, but for most Alabamians, the tribal allegiance and mutual hatred of the other team is central to their worldview.
