Post your favorite coronavirus-denier stories here! I'll start:

I went to the store today to top off my 2+ weeks of rations (I'm in for the duration now) and I coughed into my elbow (just a normal cough for me since I smoke). The woman in front of me said "god bless you", thinking I sneezed. I explained it was a cough and I did it into my elbow because "you know" (I didn't want to come out and say coronaviorus fears). The cashier, rolling her eyes, piped up, "This is so overblown!"

I responded (and the woman in front of me nodded in agreement), "no, no it's not. This is the real thing."

She shot back, "The media is trying to scare everyone!"

"No, no they're not. You should be listening to them," I responded, softly, since she was beginning to raise her voice.

"I do! I watch the news every night and they're saying it's overblown!"

"Um... which news network?" (I totally knew the answer already, but was looking forward to her saying it out loud, in front of everyone - a "Please proceed, Governor" moment).

"Fox News! CNN lies to you!"

"Okey-dokie, then. Good luck," as I beelined it to the Purell station.

I take Metoprolol as well and I am constantly blowing my nose, even when I am not sick. Wind, cold, hot liquids and of course, environmental allergens make it worse, so these days I am very self-conscious about it. I sneeze a lot too. Bright light makes me sneeze, as do the previously mentioned conditions.

Lately, I have been having to tell people "It's just allergies, I'm not sick!" just to ease their minds.

Once I pointed out that this virus has the ability to cause permanent lung damage in some people that shocked her, she did not know that.

I also pointed out that, if the need outgrows the number of available respirators (like what is happening in Italy), Doctors will have to decide who to treat and who will be left to die. That shocked her.

The fatality rate (as best we can determine) is 20 times more... maybe 30 times more.

Covid-19 is somewhat more infectious than the "common" flu (but not every flu).

Covid-19 causes some lung damage in about 17% of the cases, 80% survive with almost no permanent damage, 3% die.

Covid-19 lives on surfaces like metal or glass or cotton or wool for 10 days.

Covid-19 survives in 95F temperature just fine.

Covid-19 can infect someone 4.5 METERS ( 14.8 feet ) away from an infected person (documented)

Covid-19 can survive in the air for up to 10 minutes (i.e. someone sneezes, and you walk through that area 9 minutes later, you can be infected).

This is one of THE most dangerous pathogens mankind has every encountered. In my mind, only the black death and the Spanish Flu rank worse in the history of pandemics. Ebola is really bad, but very hard to spread. Same with most hemorrhagic fevers.

We are being incredibly stupid in not testing waaay more people and not shutting down most communal activities - shopping, sports, movies, travel, church, etc.

just like the flu. Then he actually said "I have friends who work in pharmacies and they say it's just the flu and it will be over by April."

I explained to him that no one knew if it was seasonal, there is no known treatment, it is highly contagious and (so far) the mortality rate is much higher than the common flu. As well, no one has built up immunity to this virus yet so we are all potentially susceptible.

He was on his way to some Evangelical Christian gathering where they all get together and, apparently, infect each other. When I suggested that he might want to phone it in instead, he assured me that if he contracted the virus, he would get his usual flu medicine from his doctor. Again, I explained that there is no known treatment yet and he confidently told me his doctor always gives him anti-biotics for the flu.

I tried to explain that Anti-biotics are not effective on viruses but he refused to believe me.

The good news for me is that I stayed 6 feet away from him and didn't touch anything he did. Naturally, I washed my hands!

I want to be able to ask, without laughing, if they think the virus isn't as serious for old folks as we're being told, or if its spread hasn't been as fast or as easy as reported. What about the reporting is in their opinion not true?

Is there an answer to this?

Reporters let Trump get away with saying that "Many people tell me..." etc. without asking who these people are. I want us regular people to be able to stop Trump supporters from doing the same thing, and I don't know why it's so hard for us to do. Make no mistake about it, this is media-driven hysteria is designed to tank the economy. That ruined economy will cause far greater suffering than will ever be caused by this virus. But no matter, as tanking the economy is the only way Dems and their cohorts in the media know of to defeat President Trump.

That's rediculous, and sad. The Democrats are hyping this virus for political reasons, e.i., they have no plan for America to run on, so let's destroy the economy with panic. Disgusting.

No truer words have ever been spoken. The Democrats can't defeat President Trump with the economy booming, so let's cause mass hysteria and cause a recession. The problem is, the leftist sheep will still blame President Trump for this no matter what and the Democratic party knows this and counts on them to remain faithful.

38. My kids are aspiring rappers and went to record a new song the other night
Thu Mar 12, 2020, 10:20 AM
Mar 2020

They had met the audio engineer at a concert last year and he held himself out as the Greatest of All Time.

They went to his "studio" with their song, and in spite of the puffing and grandiose self-promotion, he didn't have a clue how to handle the boards. Three days later and he still hasn't sent them their final product.

So how does this have anything to do with the Coronavirus? It doesn't. But it illustrates an important point. When this kid loudly proclaimed that he was the Greatest, didn't he know that eventually he would be exposed as a fraud? Of course he did.

And wouldn't Trump have known that telling Americans that the virus was a hoax, that it was under control and that it was no worse than the flu, would eventually be contradicted by a large-scale pandemic that everyone, psychophant MAGAT and otherwise, would be known to everyone?

Of course he knew.

And like the faux audio engineer, he doesn't care, because no one in his party (and few in the media) hold him accountable.

47. The bank...
Thu Mar 12, 2020, 12:07 PM
Mar 2020

I was at the bank yesterday this couple next to me were talking (loudly) to the teller, I wasn't listening at first until she sneezed. Then I side eyed looked at them, older couple, both looked sick af. She sneezes again and pulls out a dirty used Kleenex (box of them along with hand sanitizer on the shelf next to them). Out of reflex, I moved away a slide step to be close to the other side of my window, then the husband ( I think?) turns and sneezed RIGHT IN MY FACE and laughed. Then I heard what they were talking about...the "Chinese Flu" Yup...they managed to be as gross, stupid and ignorant as a human could possibly ever be.

Meanwhile...I quarantined myself. I don't get sick too much, but...and I'm really going to miss swimming.

Thank you for responding.

I believe the tellers did. They exchanged a look, then the manager came over and stood behind the tellers. I didn't stick around to talk to them. But, this is a small town in Idaho. The people here are too poor to go to the Dr. Too brainwashed to listen or learn. I'm sure there are already sick people but, they won't go to the Dr. "it's just a cold, after all" They know who I am and that I am one of two Liberals in the area. I pick my battles. Don't really like to be sick though.

So oh boy, do I understand what you mean. But again, if you get sick, you need to contact your provider and contact the health department. That asshole has probably been playing that "joke" on others. If it's COVID, your community needs to know. It will save lives.

I hope you are well.

And I hope that asshole is miserable, but not infected with CV19.

I live by open space and went for a walk in the beautiful sunshine the last couple of days and was able to keep a safe distance from others. Today the forecast is for snow so I am thinking of checking out Yoga by Adriene.
Last night I made homemade chicken soup for dinner with fresh thyme which is a natural antimicrobial.

Me: "How do you figure that? We'll be lucky, like extremely lucky if we even have a working vaccine in sight by then, and even if we get a lull this summer, that's when it's likely to come back on us again."

STOOPID: (Batting her giant blue eyes with false eyelashes and a coy little smile she uses to charm everyone) "Oh, I'm pretty sure it'll disappear by January."

Me: Why?

STOOPID: (Head tilt, big smile) "Because it's an election year!"

Me: "Huh. Funny that over 2,000 Italians would get themselves infected and about 200 of them would die, TODAY, just because they were trying to mess with an American election."

STOOPID: Face falls. Lip curls up in a tiny sneer. . . . . . crickets . . . .

After she stopped talking I said if you're a virologist then I'm the Queen of England because everything you just said is bullshit. I told her learn the facts before she spreads dangerous misinformation to unsuspecting people because it could kill them. And STOP listening to the ignorant fool in the WH.

is considering shutting down after tomorrow, possibly for the rest of the semester. I think it's a smart move. They can do their teaching and homework online.

However, I mentioned to my husband that maybe they should cancel his club meetings that meet every Tuesday and he said we just have to accept that we're going to get it. And he'd rather die than be stuck in the house for 2 weeks. He might get his wish, but it's sort of unfair that he's likely to take me with him. Or, more likely, I'll die from it and he'll survive.

It takes both of us to take care of the animals. Anyway I don't really have anyone close by. My friend, who normally visits me on Thursdays, lives with her elderly mother and continues to go to all her meetings and such. Not like I'd survive living with her mother anyway. And my daughter doesn't have room and is a bit more like her dad. I'm stuck where I am.

57. The Sincheonji cult in South Korea
Thu Mar 12, 2020, 12:55 PM
Mar 2020
The leader of the cult, Lee Man-hui, at his press conference has attempted to hold one member, known as "case 31" personally responsible as a "super spreader" for the catastrophic outbreak in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Cheongdo, and related commmunities. This obviates several dimensions of the problem. There remains the consistent effort by the cult to obscure the Wuhan connection from the government and public. Believers were told and this was recorded in one congregation in Pusan, that members from Wuhan were not infected, and that believers would not be affected by the virus. The behavior of case 31 is consistent with a delusion within the sect that sickness is the sign of the devil, and in this specific epidemic, the devil's blow against the organization. This explains why patient 31 refused the covid 19 test on two occasions while infected, and attended packed worship services while symptomatic. It also explains why members of the church told to self quarantine, continued to play active roles in the outside community, including 2 infected members who provided public health services and failed to reveal their Shincheonji affiliation until symptomatic with virus and proven to have covid 19.

The discussion was about closing schools here in central FL

MAGAt: Closing schools for what? Fear?

Me: To stop the spread of coronavirus. Have you not been paying attention?? It’s the best way to “flatten the curve” so we don’t end up rationing care like Italy. https://www.express.co.uk/.../Coronavirus-latest-news

MAGAt: first most kids aren’t getting it. Second who stays home with the kids? It’s giving into fear.

Me: Kids most certainly CAN be infected. They just don’t succumb to its effects. They can easily transfer it to someone who would succumb. As for childcare issues, this is where proper leadership in govt would provide a temporary social safety net to allow for that. Instead, we get offers of measly payroll tax cuts that actually hurt the funding of programs that need it now. Mandatory paid sick leave is demanded for those who are asked/required to stay home. Other western nations are doing it

MAGAt: ok Bernie

Me: oh good gawd. Stop with the dramatics. I’m being pragmatic and realistic. You wanna end up like Italy?

MAGAt: we won’t end up like Italy because we’ve closed the border to Europe and we have indoor plumbing. Our sanitation and personal hygiene are much better.

Me: Oh, to be so confident and restful in such willful ignorance.

I commented that I'm taking no chances with coronavirus.

One woman overheard me and said, "Coronavirus is nothing but media hype. It' overblown and you have nothing to worry about."

I didn't answer her. She sounded like she didn't know what she was talking about, but I was thinking, "This is a highly contagious disease, lady! Where you are getting your "information" from, Fox News?"

I mosied onto the smaller waiting room, found the hand sanitizer, and proceeded to apply it to my hands.

the lady technician takes me into the room and I say 'I'm glad you folks are working on the coronavirus situation'.
She stopped and said 'we're not'. I said, 'well the vice-president said you were'. She said in a nasty voice 'no we're not'
She was in her sixties I'd guess and didn't appear to be a very happy person.
I said, well maybe you just haven't heard and she insisted they were not working on the coronavirus and it's a media scam.
At that point she had a needle in her hand and was about to jab me and started in, 'it's the media, they're whipping all this up, it's just pneumonia'
I just said 'really?' Then she told me she had walking pneumonia once and it's the same thing.
Again she went off on 'the media blowing this whole thing out of proportion'.
At that point I knew I was dealing with a fox news mentality and just shut up and got the hell out of there.

I couldn't believe someone in the medical field could be so fucking ignorant.
