He says he went to the ER at Hackensack University Medical Center March 1st with obvious symptoms that should have triggered the #coronavirus protocol. Instead he was kept in the ER for four days, not properly isolated, often dealing with scared nurses. (more)
The patient, who doesnt have an additional risk factors, says he got worse as a result, and was finally put in isolation on day 5, but did not receive best practices/treatments proven to be working in China until day 8, March 9th. He is still insolation to this day. (more)
By the way, this patient is more knowledgeable than most on this because he is from China and plugged into that medical community. He has not been there in three years and contracted #coronavirus here through community spread. (more)
The patients family, including a nearly two-year-old daughter, self-isolated without government intervention. They do not have symptoms. Proper 14-day tracing of his movements has still not been done to this day. (more)
After or formal interview we texted a little bit and among the things he said that caught me, especially as a new father: I miss my daughter
I cannot die.
This is an objectively unnerving story, and speaks to the need to hold those in power accountable.
A special thank you to an old college friend

80+ years old 14.8%
70-79 years old 8.0%
60-69 years old 3.6%
50-59 years old 1.3%
40-49 years old 0.4%
30-39 years old 0.2%
20-29 years old 0.2%
10-19 years old 0.2%
0-9 years old no fatalities
0.2% is still 10x higher than the swine flu (0.02%)

(3,268 posts)But then if you add in diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and multiple hospital stays in the last year for pneumonia, I'm guessing were a bit past 3.6 and drifting close to Russian roulette with a 3 shot revolver...Which leaves me neither resigned to death or panicked but I am worried and edging toward scared.

(26,293 posts)About all they do have is a extremely large statistical chance of not dying from it where as the elderly and those with chronic health problems have a statistically greater chance of dying.

(811 posts)But where I live ,almost everyone that comments on a local blog does not believe COVID-19 is serious. In total denial. I have a 29 year old that works at a university and they just decided to go remote. Practice is tomorrow l I am relieved she will not have to deal with students returning from Spring Break. This denial and lack of facts will hurt the country.i have been posting
the numbers everywhere I can. But yes , the risk is lower for young people but not nonexistent.

(27,121 posts)keep saying it's no worse than the flu.
It is at least 10x more deadly than flu, and is 100% (at least) more contagious.

(46,051 posts)Was that children could get it but seldom become seriously ill and don't die of it. Children, not young people. Of course, someone on DU could have gotten it wrong.

(19,066 posts)I've had some discussions at work with people saying things like, "the young and reasonably healthy probably don't have to worry." I've completely changed their thinking just by mentioning how I am worried about my elderly parents.
Make this personal for them. Everyone has elderly family that they don't want to lose.
