but the last time I got decent data from John Hopkins... the rate as calculated from known infections and known outcomes (over 50,000 in the population)... and the rate was close to 5.5%

Now, that rate is too high... it isn't 5.5%... but it might be 2% or even 3%... it is unlikely to be ONLY 1%... and 1% is 10 times more than the flu.
