I am working as a seasonal receptionist in a well-known tax prep chain. I can overhear all of the conversations going on. Right at this moment, in one cubicle an honest-to-God MAGA-hat wearing client is talking about how all of this coronavirus business is being overblown, only 14 people have died, 60,000 people die from flu...etc, etc. There's something else going on, he's not sure what, but he doesn't trust what he's hearing. He manages to point to his hat and say something like I'm wearing this because we've GOT to make America great again, at least he (trump) is trying.
In the booth next to him is a older man, talking to the tax pro about getting real facts from "The Straight Dope.com" (remember that one? she's young, she's never heard of it). Talking about getting real facts and educating one's self.
I see the length and breadth of humanity pass through here. It's jarring sometimes the diametrically opposed personality types who come in, and whom I have to smile at the same way.

(14,964 posts)a hard turn into a partisan divide, when it wasn't before. I was actually somewhat, I won't say friendly, but civil with a few of them on other platforms. The big disinfo campaign with all the flu stats, kicked into high gear over the weekend. I am pretty sure this is linked to the Trump campaign, I know..big shocker there.

(31,261 posts)They really believe that crap and when I challenged one, that person blurted out "It has been proven true". How can one possibly get people like that to pull his or her head out of their ass.
