A negative test does *not* mean you are ok going forward.

The first part is trickier. It all depends on variables such as: how many virus particles made contact with you; where they made contact (mucous membranes?); how your body responded to the invader. These factors all influence whether and how quickly the virus is able to gain access to your body's machinery to start producing replicate virus particles to distribute to others.
