A coworker is trying to get her kid home from a European company. The kid is flying into Seattle for screening which is at least only a state away (few hours drive).

And will walk - unquestioned and unexamined - out of the airports and into the general population.

This is going well, isn't it?

Which is why they are funneling them through specific airports.

Probably just questions and a temperature check.

Maybe there’s an argument that the new arrivals won’t change much nationally.

Screening for fever seems useless for an infection that remains asymptomatic for 2 weeks, but that’s just an uninformed opinion. Is that still the best estimate?

I don’t know what good questions you can ask. Were you in contact with other people for the past two weeks? I guess asking if you were in a hospital?

The only effective screening seems to be testing for the virus but that would involve delays and we don’t seem to have enough tests anyway.

The best thing to do is to give the details of what’s been worked out by experts and why. Communicating factual detail and explanations is one of the keys to managing this.
