there were going to be financial and economic repercussions anyway. People aren't traveling, so hotels and airlines and tourism are going to suffer. Arts and entertainment and restaurants are going to suffer. Aside from groceries and drugstores, pretty much most businesses are going to suffer to greater or lesser degrees.

All of us are having to rein it in to avoid crowds and non-essential activities, and that slows the economy big time. Many are working from home and burrowing in. It might be less bad under a good administration because there would be less uncertainty, but COVID-19 would still be causing a fair amount of financial and economic havoc.
