I just got back from buying some food supplies at the grocery store. Just in case.

It was crazier than the day before Thanksgiving. I would liken it to the old mall days (before online sales) on the day before Christmas.

When I got there, parking was a little tight, but when I left it looked like a baseball game parking lot.

Every aisle had a dozen shoppers. Food on the floor here and there. But one thing I noticed, nearly everyone was polite to each other. Moving out of the way for others, apologizing for being in the way. I helped a lady grabbed some cans that were too high for her to reach.

No toilet paper, paper towels, dried beans or rice, though. Pretty much everything else was there—even cough suppressant, and hand soap.

As I was shopping, over time, the aisles began to get tighter and tighter with shoppers: as if a tsunami of people was slowly moving in. I decided to check out before the lines went out the door.

The check out lines were already up to 20 people long (depending on which register you chose). Again, everyone was very polite to each other. It was quite a nice thing to see.

People are getting off work, that's probably why it got more crowded while you were there.

Filled the freezer and pantry in a way I haven't since we lived in blizzard country. I would NOT go out this weekend for anything!

If things escalate at just one store and fights break out, people just grab shit and run out of the store, video will go viral and well...

I hope I'm wrong.

and this is what I feared would be the case upon returning. Online grocery pick up is not available until Sunday and I'm worried that will be too late. So now I'm thinking I might have more luck if I get up at 4am and shop the 24 hr stores.

picked over. WalMart still doesn't have enough shopping carts and one guy followed me out to the
parking lot when I was done so he could have my cart. I had grabbed some hand wipes they provide
at the entrance and when I was done unloading my cart I wiped down the handle for him. What a way
to meet people!

It's usually just me and the kid that sweeps up, but tonight there were lines at the registers, people buying basket loads of things, and so many of the shelves were actually bare. Looks like people are panicking over the uncertainty. These are scary times and it would make all the difference if we had some kind of believable leadership to calm the waters and explain what's really going on.
