I hate to say it, but, at least initially, Trump's approval will probably go up.

This is a national crisis, and at times of national crisis, presidential approvals tend to go up. 9/11, is the classic example, when W's approval hit 90%. The nation looks to the president as their leader to steer them through choppy seas. The low-information voter will see him as a leader who has a difficult job.

Secondly, no matter how bad things get, on the coronavirus victims, on the economy, on the financial suffering, or on the disruption to regular life, he will always have somebody else to blame.

Third, Republicans are rigid in their support and will believe that "this would be the same situation with any president." They will stand by Trump, no matter what. He has a cult following. His supporters are blinded by prejudice and anger, and that isn't going to change.

than 45% approval. That’s basically his ceiling. He might poll slightly better for a week or two but then his numbers will go right back down.

capitalizing on the situation at hand in the news to make him look better.

Trump has opened his mouth and put his foot in it so many times in just the last week - that Bloomberg's people can put together an ad - that could completely devastate Trump.

I wish he would do that.

Trump's impotent response and delays and lies about this are in a totally different league than any other crisis the country has seen...this may be the first time a US President could be conceivably seen as an accessory to manslaughter on an unbelievable scale.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for Trump..."
"WE have nothing to fear except Democratic governors..."
"The buck stops over there somewhere with someone else, I take no responsibility for any of it..."
"I regret that my countrymen have but one life they can give for Trump...
"

He cannot possibly win an above board election with a depression underway due to a 10% or greater contraction in the economy and the return of soup kitchens and massive efforts to feed and care for people across the nation...

This is potentially 1929 and 1987 and 2008 rolled into a new monster...the economy is in utter chaos, retraction and fear is rife everywhere as no one really knows what is going to happen next...instead of worrying about calming the population, Trump is worried about settling scores and taking shots at perceived enemies STILL...he is showing his ass as the kind of guy who you not only would NEVER want in your foxhole under fire, but also the kind of guy who would be shining a light ON YOU in the hopes of getting you shot to protect his own worthless ass on an ambush or night time operation in a forward area. He is worse than a coward, he is the kind of person that would willingly see others DIE to save himself, even if it meant CAUSING those deaths...

After November, if I ever hear someone say they voted for Trump after all of this, I am likely to punch them square in the jaw and let the consequences fall where they may...if anyone supports this assclown after this, they are no longer worthy of common decency in my outlook...
