Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said Monday he wants to give monthly checks to low-income and middle class Americans so they can afford necessities during the coronavirus outbreak.
Cotton, who knocked the House-passed coronavirus response bill as too complicated, suggested the money could come from tax rebates or through unemployment agencies.

(15,771 posts)I seem to recall that at some time there was an economic stimulus (wasnt it with W?) where everyone got a check in the mail?
How long does it take to cut those checks? why can't they do a blanket amount?
were the other checks based on IRS returns? I dont recall.
Waiting for Unemployment to do it is stupid cuz they are gonna be stuck at home too. not to mention, when has the EDD EVER done anything quickly?

(4,790 posts)This sounds suspiciously like walking around money, from the people who are still planning to cripple Social Security with payroll tax cuts. A benefit with a short-term result for us and a huge long-term benefit to one party, if their BS works.

Any economic stimulus package needs to include a provision barring the government from seizing the payments for student loans.
