(29,086 posts)She is doing pretty well, all things considered, still at home, has care coming in (and help with groceries, etc.) I am currently glad she is still able to live at home, since it limits exposure compared to assisted living. It's a one-story house, and she can get along pretty well for now. I spoke to her today and she's still going on about politics and who Biden should pick!

(43,510 posts)And she has a safe, comfortable home, care, helpers and visitors. All good things.

(21,738 posts)I'll be ok, my kids, not so much. Two of them have already lost their jobs. I worry for them. The other one works in a hospital, and still has a job. They're all much more concerned about lost money than illness.

(38,198 posts)But, there is a sneaking feeling of being overwhelmed. It is the uncertainty that has me worried. Is this an apocalypse?
I got my cats' one extra month's worth of dry food and in case they get fleas, one dose of "spot'" medicine each, just in case. I will be ok with food and for a few weeks with TP, but I have stomach troubles. Once the TP runs out, it's gonna get dire.

(21,646 posts)I guess a unified concern for all would be election disruptions; govt. health policies for CV; the economy; the govt.; national defense etc.

(19,382 posts)I’m think of other people losing jobs, nest eggs (small as they are), home loss, etc. I know there’s a spot on there but I put in financially and medically good. But I worry so much about others financially.

(24,259 posts)Not being able to see, hug or go places with loved ones for possibly a long time.
The main part of that for me is I have a daughter in her 40s and young grandchildren that I see and interact with regularly but social distancing, etc means no car rides or hugs and cuddles with them for a while. Hopefully we'll get through this and be able to again soon though. At least for us there's a chance. Sadly so many won't even have that.

(11,969 posts)Long-distance relationship (two continents) surviving this; my mental health while in lockdown (I'm in a house with my estranged husband, waiting for divorce/new housing)
I have a stable job (university professor). I have no kids. My parents aren't elderly or in particularly poor health; I can't worry about them any more than I already do. I don't really worry about myself. But I'm anxious.
appalachiablue
(43,510 posts)too rough on you. Glad there's stable employment and no serious family worries or duties. Best. (PS Tell Morgantown hi for me if that's where you are. Years ago I spent a semester there with friends and then we moved on).

(11,969 posts)All my stress is in the old noggin. And it's stress of my own creation (inasmuch as my brain chemistry causes it and my partner is 4000 miles away).
It is really eerie here in Mo-town. The students are gone, the university is mostly shuttered (I have to go to my office tomorrow to get some stuff). It's just downright odd.
Cheers from Morgantown

(43,510 posts)Sorry I didn't mean to minimize your situation. I can see how M.town or any deserted campus would seem spooky now. I hope you are able to get thru this and reunite with your partner before too long.
Those years ago I had some special times in the town, but moved on to a university that suited me better.
(During a sep. & d. the ex wouldn't move out so I did. Fortunately for the first time in decades I had some flexibility work wise and in terms of finances, and the strength to get out of that terrible situation. (Just another) soul sucking, long term marriage.
femmedem
(8,500 posts)That our household income is going to tank, and so are the household incomes of so many people in my community who are living hand to mouth. (At least we have a few months' expenses saved up.)
But mainly I worry that I might have it and give it to Mr. Femmedem, who is nine years older than me. I'm not coughing as much as I was at the beginning of the week, but my chest is uncomfortable and I got winded taking a shortish walk. But no fever. It's maddening not to know, although I'm taking precautions as if I have it. (My walk was solitary.)

(43,510 posts)of us. We can't help but worry about loved ones, that's also high on my list, then finances. I hope that your health concerns aren't serious. All the best and thanks for commenting.

(8,332 posts)IDK I'm fearing massive social unrest in a few months when those "checks" (if they materialize) run out, food starts running out and people don't have jobs (among other factors). Maybe being alarmist but all the people stocking up on guns and ammo are also figuring that something ugly is coming soon.
appalachiablue
(43,510 posts)things don't really get to that point, but realizing that it could at the worst. I appreciate your thoughtful response.

(11,511 posts)My wife and I can work from home, we're OK on supplies, are healthy, and the kids are safe and generally OK.
I worry about my elderly neighbors, friends who work in healthcare, all the people in the service industries losing work.
Further down the road, this will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the economy. We're close to retirement and may have to postpone a few years if this keeps up. I know we won't be alone in that respect.
appalachiablue
(43,510 posts)concerned about the vulnerable you mention, it's all real. Thanks for commenting and best.

(7,858 posts)For others and myself. Finances, politics, the vulnerability and loneliness of the elderly, the completely insane world we found ourselves in, the future. Everything. I'm not stir crazy yet and cabin fever is still a ways off, but there's a general sense of foreboding.
I'm so glad for DU and everyone here. I've relied on virtual communities before and this one is the best!

Therefore:
Lost insurance during a freaking pandemic
I am in a higher risk group for complications
Poor prospects of new employment
Concern about paying mortgage
Concern about paying other bills
But there are others in worse shape.
