Even die-hard Libertarians will admit this. In fact, they think that's the *only* role of the Feds.
Good time for some of those "You Had One Job" memes.

It's capitalism. Which government is supposed to REGULATE to keep from allowing it to abuse, maim, poison, kill and/or destroy the lives and health of Americans for profit. And THAT is why Republicans HATE government.
They don't WANT Americans to trust government. Or to rely on it. Because that way, if Americans hate government and never trust it, it's easier for Republicans to "drown it in a bathtub". And then there's no pesky regulations they have to put up with. And no taxes to pay! YeeHa!
Who hates regulators and "big" government? Dirty, greedy, self-serving capitalists. Who hates taxes? Same.
Fact is, it's not the SIZE of government that matters. It's WHO they work for. And right now, they ONLY work for big corporations, big banks, Wall St. and billionaires.
Same way criminals hate law enforcement. NOTICE how much Trump DESPISES America's FBI and intelligence community. Because Trump is a monumental, international money-laundering goddamned CROOK.

(17,393 posts)is it the Federal government that shows up? They have little to no involvement with any of those things. It is almost exclusively provided by local entities.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
