Governor Whitmer just released ban on churches gathering more than 50. Shoots the reasoning for the rule all to hell.

(131,246 posts)those are the so-called mainstream churches. It sounds like in a lot of places the fundie megachurches are going ahead as usual. While the result might be a thinning of that particular herd, they can also transmit the bug to others. Dumb move, IMO.

(151,563 posts)stay home anyhow. It's a dim hope, however, for some religious groups, I'm afraid. My advice: If your neighbors head out to church tomorrow, keep your distance from them from now on. If they ask, tell them why you are doing so, from at least 10' away.

(3,146 posts)the judiciary in this country appears to have adopted a very expansive view of religious liberty.
A refusal on her part to exempt religious organizations would have brought a flurry of lawsuits which the state has a great chance of losing.

(4,857 posts)Most churches have already shut down. My church has been shut down for two weeks now, and just announced that they may reopen on May 16--at the earliest, depending on what the CDC says.
But there will always be a few that will not close voluntarily. And that is a problem for EVERYONE.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
