When you think about it, there could be no other reason than this for his non-action on EVERYTHING.
It's not like we won't find out he did NOTHING to protect us from day one.
Even Trump isn't that stupid.
He really doesn't care.
Period.
He wants us all dead.

(115,793 posts)I don't think that's what he wants. I really think he's so delusional that he doesn't accept the gravity of the situation or the fact that he can't fix it. So he blathers about miracle drugs and lots of masks and ventilators because he doesn't want to believe how bad it is - he doesn't want the public to question his ability to make the pandemic go away. That's why he blew it off until he couldn't anymore. He really is that stupid and that narcissistic.

(12,712 posts)He is not "going down" in this, to me.
He is going to the next phase, that's all. This is the opportunity he has been waiting for. I can't think of a tyrannical dictator as going down if he gets what he always wanted. A monarch rules. He gets the spoils. What more could he ask for?
If we were all dead, where would the fun be in total control? His coming, probably vast, usurping of powers will also protect, enrich and sustain him, so he is going up as we go down. It's tactical and to be expected after three years.
Keep an eye on that. Watch the DOJ's actions now and don't let the pandemic eclipse the potential grab. I am concerned about the near future the most, not the coming elections. Oh, and remember how The Patriot Act was just railroaded by many who didn't even read the voluminous document. Trump is a fan of Mien Kampf, (which seems to be a book he actually read, so he said) and he does know an opportunity to lunge when it presents itself. Barr will come in very handy for this.

(23,961 posts)his demise is much overstated at DU. apparently, we're incapable of understanding how his corona virus response has helped him solidify his hold on power. all the threads of disbelief at his positive approval rating for crisis handling in the face of his obvious failure to protect us from the current disaster in any way stand as evidence enough.
late-stage capitalism has been exposed as an unsuitable method of social organization. when societies turn away from it, they could turn to capitalism's long-standing natural critique (aka "socialism" ) or they can regress, to the social organization capitalism replaced ("monarchy" ). Trump and friends are aiming for and, imho, likely to achieve the latter as a result of this crisis. Trump will likely emerge from this as a de-facto king, with his chief sycophants essentially forming the nobility class of some new feudal society.

(26,366 posts)His fame and career is about perception and "smoke and mirrors" much more than ability.
The idea that he's intentionally trying to destroy everything is stupid and ignores his history (and many failures).

he will not do anything if it is not in his personal interest to do so.
his party elected him to "burn down the system." as far as they are concerned he is doing a great job.

(10,252 posts)because he fears the consequences of his decisions may not turn out so great. So confusion and indecision allow him to blame others for the fine mess we are in. I don't think that he wants to take us down, because it would burst his self-image of being a great leader. From the very beginning of his admin, it has been characterized as chaotic, his flip-flops confusing. There is no master plan. Just day-to-day put on a show that makes him look good. Trump is all about appearances with no inner substance. Alas he is completely unaware how others see him.
