(7,145 posts)That you can only test people who have come in contact with people who've already been tested and proven to have it there's a big loophole on trying to find out who has it

(38,015 posts)but you have to get an online appointment. WA State has 8,000 tests, so although we qualify for the test, fat chance we'll be tested.

(28,280 posts)And people coming from all the surrounding areas to get tested.
Our local positive numbers have jumped from 13 to 34 in the past day, but 95 % of the tests are coming back negative right now.
It's kind of nice to know that we have a more accurate picture than most of what the real numbers are.
We've all been holed up for two weeks already.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- While coronavirus testing sites in other parts of the state are limiting or suspending testing due to kit shortages, Syracuses triage testing facility is making an effort to test more people.
Officials at the Syracuse Community Health Center say they have enough test kits to keep testing into next week, and expect more on the way.
Dr. Michael Schiano, chief medical officer at SCHC, said hes seen people come from as far as New York City in recent days to get a test in Syracuse, since its getting harder to get tested in other parts of the state.
Right now we have ample test kits for whatever we need to do, Schiano said Saturday evening. Were prepared for as much as we need right now.
Late in the week, the health center adopted testing criteria in an effort to test more people for COVID-19.
When the center opened Monday, people could only get a test if referred by their doctor. Now, anyone can drive up for a test if they feel sick. If the person has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher and another symptom like a cough or shortness of breath, theyll be tested. The clinic is also testing people who have had recent exposure, travel history or if they look symptomatic.
As of yesterday, the clinic had tested more than 1,000 people. Schiano said he didnt have exact number for Saturday, but that there were likely another 120 to 150 tested.
Officials had expected a bigger rush at the clinic Saturday. But recent state decrees telling people to stay home may have warded off some potential testees, Schiano said.
It takes between 10 and 20 minutes for someone to go through the drive-through test process. Its a little slower in the mornings and gets quicker as the day goes on.
Results from those swabs take 24 to 48 hours to come back. Thats about half the time it was earlier this week. The clinics lab provider, Quest Diagnostics, recently started testing at a lab in Pittsburgh. The health center is now flying samples there daily, instead of Virginia.
The clinic has 50 staffers and volunteers who get their temperature taken every morning before testing starts. They wear personal protective equipment to try to avoid the virus.
Derrick Murry, the centers chief operating officer, said theyve seen a surprising amount of positive test results among people ages 17 to 28. Thats good, he said, because thats the age people are healthiest and most able to fight off a disease.
Schiano said the rate of infection among that age group is likely higher because older people are taking more precautions to avoid the virus.
I think that population itself is a little bit higher risk-taking population and may not be following the rules of hand-washing and social distancing, he said. They think theyre invincible at that age.
The testing center is located at 819 S. Salina St. in Syracuse. Its open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

There may be a site in the big city mentioned in the OP that may likewise be reported in the local news there, as driving around is an odd way to find something in a big city.
If you search Google News for: (city) drive through testing, you generally hit a local news site reporting one.
The notion that they would be somehow hiding their presence from local news is amusing.
Given the ease with which one may search for them as noted above, this looks more like a personal data harvesting thread, IMHO.

(6,122 posts)I live in NW FL, Escambia County. You were supposed to call To be screened first and would be directed to the testing site if you qualified. The video on the news looked like it was on the back side of the hospital so you would not necessarily see it from the streets by the hospital. They have never identified where it is located, as far as I know, which I am sure is to cut down on people who just show up expecting to be tested.

(35,176 posts)we have more than a few test kits. A few days ago we had 500 and they were using 150 a day. We have not, to my knowledge, gotten any more but our numbers are raising now faster than before.
Drive up testing? You can't even get a test here.

(116,020 posts)I'm high risk in several ways with respiratory symptoms and history except no fever so can't get tested.
I'd not do anything different than I am now, but it's be nice to let people I've been in contact with know.
However, it's spreading in the community now, so everyone is presumed contagious so they're just, as they have been, screening the most acutely sick to see if it's something else treatable.
Sigh.

(2,699 posts)I went in a week and 1/2 ago because Id been enduring something that seemed flu like and I got my vax months ago. Took 2 hrs to be told I didnt have the right symptoms but they sent mr to another hospital emergency to make sure I didnt have pneumonia. That took another two hours. They finally struck a swab in my nose and told me to remain isolated for 3 days. The test came back positive for Rhino virus. I had a and still have a mofo cold.
