I've been non stop in the SW region of the US hauling Walmart trailers exclusively from their distribution center outside of Barstow to the Walmart's in Las Vegas and the Pahrump, NV. trying to keep the food and goods flowing.
I'm now on my 34 hour reset because I ran out of service hours, so I finally get a break and my truck is due for it's B service.
Thank you everyone for your support for us truckers in these trying times.

(12,249 posts)they're allowing us to use their facilities to clean up, allowing us to park our trucks in their lots to get some sleep and they're paying top mileage rates.

(1,634 posts)Walmart use to be my alternative to park/rest overnight when the truck and rest stops were full. I would also stock up on supplies. Right around the time I retired, some of the Walmarts were starting to ban this practice by putting parking boots on the trucks. Glad to see they're truck friendly again..

(3,299 posts)glad I don't have to anymore. I've been off the road for over three years. I got an email from my former employer looking for drivers last week, after not hearing from them for a couple of years. Then I got a recruitment banner from UPS, which is unheard of.
Drive safe out there.

(1,040 posts)All I can say is thank God for the hours of service rules, or these drivers would be run ragged. Son-in-law drives a dedicated route from KC area to Colorado and back. Daughter monitors electronic logs and makes sure those truckers (both men and women) get their rest and restarts. If it wasn't for truckers, we would be in sad shape.
Be kind to truckers ... they are keeping us alive!

(20,628 posts)weeks ago that I work in an industry that directly supplies the trucking industry, and our production has been halted temporarily, but I'm certainly hoping that won't last long. Beyond my own selfish desires for wanting to back to work, I want to make sure that you all have the necessary logistical support in terms of your equipment! You play an essential role in getting food on my table, amongst countless other things, and maintaining those supply lines is vital.

(10,299 posts)There's a ton of drivers out there who normally haul things like steel, glass, other stuff.. stuff not essential to daily living. Car plants have shut down, thus they don't need parts. Parts manufacturers don't need raw materials... Steel plants have no customers .. that whole supply chain is shutting down. Dock workers and factory line employees are being sent home. Drivers will be idled and maybe sent home too. The drivers would be happy enough to swap their flatbeds for dry vans and reefers and help out.

(57,284 posts)Today: a car battery, seasoned fries, supreme pizza, and disposable razors. I might have been the only person in the Walmart without toilet paper or paper towels in my basket.
I had gone there last night too, but I left not knowing which car battery was the one I should get. I figured that out this morning and went back this afternoon. If anyone there had CV, then I've got lots of company. It's flat out astonishing how many of the shelves are barren.
