Face Mask Printable Pattern

On Friday, UnityPoint Health in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids released a statement asking anyone who can sew to donate their time and skills to making masks. It posted a printable pattern and a how-to video.

UnityPoint had to take down its instructions one day after posting them because of the overwhelming response.

One of the benefits of growing up female during the 60's and 70's is that you learned to sew. And type. Both of which are skills I've always envied but never pursued.

The larger hospitals like Umass medical center don't want them, but smaller hospitals and clinics can really use them. The nurses and aids will still wear a paper mask under them, but they don't have to discard one after each patient. They merely put a new cloth one on. These are washable and reusable so the supply will only grow.

Sew on ladies and gentlemen! Skills pay the bills, and save lives to boot.

I got out my sewing machine, but had to concede that I'm not good at sewing. Last night I looked on craigslist and found someone locally who is making masks, so I'm going to go pick up a couple this morning. If I like them, I'll order more. I also asked her if she would be able to make some with a pocket for inserting a filter, and she said she could. I ordered some charcoal filter, cut-to-fit, so hopefully that'll be something that'll work. I also saw a pattern online with a filter pocket, and the advice was to put a tissue in for a filter. I had ordered anti-viral tissues for that purpose, fully expecting that they wouldn't come, but they did.

I know some may think I'm being ridiculous, but I've got to do my best to stay well for my daughter's sake. I don't think it'll ever hurt to have reusable masks around just for general purposes. Fire season is no doubt coming soon, though I think we had more precipitation this year than normal.

Any idea where this can be purchased in a smaller quantity? Additionally, some of these contain FIBERGLASS. Is this safe to put in a face mask?

Maskward ho!

I’ll still have fabric, but maybe I’ll be able to put clothes in my closet.

the only time you use the 'link' button is when you are putting a hyperlink in regular text

like this (I am posting your broken link for example only)

Link here to the printable pattern:

otherwise just paste the link into the body of the OP/reply as a standalone

like this (same broken link)
