I know I live in a different universe than most folks but I didn't think it was THIS different.

In my dream world, things like this are possible.

Southern whites troubled by Romney's wealth, religion

LYNCHBURG, Virginia (Reuters) - Sheryl Harris, a voluble 52-year-old with a Virginia drawl, voted twice for George W. Bush. Raised Baptist, she is convinced -- despite all evidence to the contrary -- that President Barack Obama, a practicing Christian, is Muslim.

So in this year's presidential election, will she support Mitt Romney? Not a chance.

"Romney's going to help the upper class," said Harris, who earns $28,000 a year as activities director of a Lynchburg senior center. "He doesn't know everyday people, except maybe the person who cleans his house."

She'll vote for Obama, she said: "At least he wasn't brought up filthy rich."

Now excuse me, I think I'll try to go wake myself up now...

that democrats aren't playing it stronger -- which means talking about policy, rather than just talking about how rich romney is.

romney's wealth and the dirty way he got it trumps obama's supposedly 'muslim' faith, even for white southerners.

6. Populism always wins vs elitism. Democrats, as far as I've seen, keep getting stung by that.

also. in her case she seems like one of those people who have prejudices but is not hateful. she will see a person of a certain race or some other background and assume things about them.

she thinks he is muslim but she doesn't hate muslims.

7. It's probably the Mormon thing, too.

If we were as nasty as they are we could really be getting some mileage out of Romney's Mormonism. If I were the evil type, I would go to Southern Babtist churches and put Romney literature and Mormon tracts on the windshields in the parking lots. Those people hate Mormons. They might vote for him but if they thought he was trying to convert them, he'd be finished in the South.

eta: Oops, I just read the whole thing and, yep, it's his religion, too. Love this quote...
"Mormons don't believe like we believe," said Dianna McCullough, a retired factory worker, as she tossed salad in a Tree of Life Ministries soup kitchen. "Like the wives -- Romney's probably got more than one."

The one percenters have done a great job of dividing the other 99 percent for a long time but it has become too outrageous for most to ignore.
