As you can see in the video, cellphones on a single beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during spring break were selected and tracked, and then seen sprawling all over the Eastern half of the country, potentially spreading the virus even further.
The video was created to show human movement during the coronavirus pandemic and uses data collected by a location technology company called X-Mode, which was then put into the Tectonix data visualization platform.

(3,579 posts)Overheard some delivery guys chatting with a college age male Target employee. "We haven't seen you in a while. Where have you been?" The employee answered, "Well, last week I was on vacation. I was on Spring Break in Florida." The delivery guys said "Oh! you're one of those kids on the beaches we heard about on tv!" The young man's only reply: "Well... I didn't go on tv saying stupid things."
He probably lives off campus, and instead of going back to his family's home, he came back to a college town in the Midwest.
Look at how bright the Midwest is on that heat map.
And that's from ONE beach.

(15,786 posts)Teens have done stupid things for centuries. There are many virus over the years that were spread due to irresponsible people. Do you think they should have been outed to?

(3,579 posts)Most students at my university have gone to their permanent residences. But from the conversation I overheard today, I realize that at least some of those who live off campus have not.

(25,242 posts)What would this heat map show if all the beaches in Florida and beaches in other States have been tracked?

(58,785 posts)with and without the virus from around the nation and even internationally. They spread the virus among each other, around the local communities, heavily older retirees, and then reversed their courses to superspread the virus in the many thousands of of places they came from, including of course to their own families.
NOLA was even worse, though. Mardi Gras goes on for over six weeks. During that period participants flew and drove in from around the planet with and without the virus, heavily infected the local population, and then reversed their millions of courses to continue their good work among many more millions of others.
Both these states have Republican-controlled governments.

Reminds me of a casual friend who fell off a roof because he didn't place a ladder safely. When we visited him in the hospital he was on about his third day or so of ranting about how it was all somehow his undependable brother-in-law's fault. We been warned by others, including his family, and knew to "sympathize" appropriately.
I shouldn't be smiling and am not any more. This holocaust may hopefully whip at least some overly complacent and irresponsible people into more awareness. Also reminds me of the many anti-government conservatives who've revealed over the years (in response to my doubts) that they really secretly did expect that government would be there to take care of them in any situation.

(51,584 posts)Some people (GOP that is) may finally wake up after their nearest and dearest die around them. Some people have to be hit over the head with a hammer, repeatedly. I bet that dude is still bitching about his brother in law while he is positioning that ladder for the next roof repair. Fools!

(9,067 posts)...and there are checks on the highways and airports.
Basically, FL can infect everyone on the beaches, send them all over the place to to spread the virus, and then won't let them come back because they might be sick?!?!?!?
Makes sense to me.
