LOUIS There is no sign of a dip in coronavirus cases in St. Louis or Missouri. The regions caseload is rocketing upward, with the state seeing a more than 600% increase in total cases over the past week the largest percentage increase in the country as of Thursday, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.
And a lack of widespread testing largely means that experts arent sure when the region will reach the peak of its curve clouding their ability to know when normal life might resume. They hope they will be able to better predict in coming days how much protective measures, like social distancing and widespread restrictions on public activities, are working.

Rapid growth of COVID cases in Missouri is rather a function of test availability and probably is not reflective of what true growth of (the) epidemic is, said Dr. George Turabelidze, Missouris state public health epidemiologist.
Still, recent events like Mardi Gras may have added fuel to the rising caseload. In New Orleans, for instance, the celebration is thought to have sparked one of the worlds leading surges in the spread of the virus. Such large public events can multiply infections, many of which wont be discovered for as many as 14 days, the time it can take for symptoms to appear.

(9,998 posts)Have they even imposed any kind of stay at home order there?
They couldn't even vote a moderate like Claire McCaskill into the Senate again. Sad state of affairs there.

(1,040 posts)... thankful our Democratic governor acted quickly and decisively. I despair for my family in Missouri (some of whom have serious health conditions). We get the Kansas City TV stations, and all the reports are contrasting the numbers in MO and KS, along with the actions (or in some cases inactions) taken by the two governors.
Just sad.

neighbor across the alley, his flooring company he's stopped doing stuff,
neighbors on the other side of me, they're hunkered down, their daughter (and grandson) is a nurse (I'm guessing, went to school for, haven't heard anything negative),
City is awful quiet during the night especially, some out and about during the day;
I'm not going out, but my SO works in an essential business but is somewhat protected (they been given all kinds of protective sprays/rags/everything (a Hardware place) to use in their workspaces (but I still somewhat worry); They been giving all kinds of perks and bonuses too. At least that's good for putting up w/ this event.
Be safe all.
I don't know why the numbers are spiking, but I assume that the republicans out in the county (outside the immediate city limits of STLMO) are probably flocking out, shopping, etc. in mobs, god...I hope not. We do have the majority of major medical centers here, so may be major source of CV reports.

(18,870 posts)Only necessary businesses are open. Everyone is supposed to stay home. I think we have about 100 cases in our area .
There are 19 cases in KC in Clay county where I live.
