Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow many times have you come across *this* "tactic" from trumpers?
Where they'll distract and start mentioning thousands have died from the flu this year, trying to distract from the dangers of Covid-19.
What I don't understand is that they're ignoring the fact that trump is in office and all these deaths (flu and Covid-19) are happening under HIS watch. Meanwhile, they go back and harp on Obama for the ~12,000 deaths that happened over about a year's span during the H1N1 epidemic and again ignore the fact that we have 2,500 deaths in ONE MONTH from Covid-19 and the death rate is still climbing.

It is a literal cult.

(61,975 posts)And the cult thing. But, 2500 is still lower than 12000. They don't get multiplication.
I had one Trumpbot say H1N1 killed 24000. They are inflating the number on purpose

(21,050 posts)would be ridiculed and laughed at. I do have a doctor friend who is gung ho on rump, and he asked me when we saw each other last, what I thought about rump ... I told him that I respected him (the doctor) and that I didn't really want to answer his ? and offend him.
He said 'come on, answer me, I won't be mad'. My personality is that I don't publically voice my displeasure w/ idiots and such, e.g., my Mom told me if you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all.
I told him that rump was a joke and that he didn't have to gutter mouth everything and everyone basically, and that he was a spoiled brat.
And surprising enough to me, he kind of agreed w/ me. This shocked me (this was a couple of months ago, prior to the CV). This guy (doctor) grew up in lily white SE Missouri, home of the trumpers.
I guess rump's idiotic actions finally got to him.
As a doctor, I wonder what he thinks of rump now with the handling of the CV. I suspect that I have the answer already (a buffoon and a joke probably). Perhaps he won't be asked to help (I'm sure he would), but he's in his 70s (74 I think) and has high blood pressure (very high, had to retire due to it).

(5,465 posts)So you can go back and ask a follow up question when we blow by those numbers in record time. The 12k threshold will likely be within a week.
If that is the standard they are going to set for success then hold them to it.

Generally, the flu is a relative constant. COVID-19 is the unknown, and that's the problem.

(1,206 posts)...and I'm not even sure it has anything at all to do with Trump or politics at all.
They just know they can't go to work - and they also know that the flu does indeed kill many, many, many more people per year America than COVID-19 has (thus far).
Most people in this country right now see this solely on the news and as an urban (and more specifically coastal) problem, not one that affects them.
Not saying it's a correct view of things, but at this moment for people who aren't following every second of every development, it's their view.

(24,182 posts)Has anybody ever asked them, what exactly is Trump doing to combat the Flu? Nobody in their right minds holds anybody accountable for flu deaths that happen every year (mainly to older, immune-compromised people). Obama also lead an active and coordinated response to Swine Flu that almost certainly led to less deaths and it never caused what we're seeing now in terms of shutdowns, disruptions, etc. It was so low-key and effective, I almost forgot that the Swine Flu pandemic ever happened and maybe only know one person who ever got it (and survived).
