https://www.abqjournal.com/1438375/apd-involved-in-shooting-east-of-downtown.htmlAPD Deputy Chief Harold Medina said that around 1:15 p.m., officers were sent to the 900 block of Edith SE, near Broadway and Coal, because an employer was concerned about an employee and wanted to see if he was OK.
They made contact with the individual, Medina said in a media briefing at the scene. At this time, an altercation occurred between the officers and the individual, at which time at least one APD officer did discharge their firearm.
Medina said the shooting occurred inside the house and no other civilians were there at the time. He said he did not know whether the man was armed with a gun or any other weapon. He didnt provide any other information about the altercation.

(12,712 posts)This happens too often, but it must feel really bad for the person who called for the welfare check.
There you are, concerned about the well-being of someone for some reason, and it kills them. Is this society insane or what? Trigger happy cops out to make sure you are neither served or protected.

(9,696 posts)they were considering sending the cops on a wellness check. I told them in no uncertain terms that they should never under any circumstances do that, and ended the "friendship" shortly there after.
I realize that sometimes a wellness check is the right thing to do, but it can be misused by manipulative people who want to cause trouble. Also, the cops in my little town shot a woman with mental health problems in her house a few years ago.
Wellness checks performed by police are a waste of resources. We should have social services persons for those tasks...in a perfect world.
