ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC/CNN) - Officials with a New York medical system say nearly everyone will have to wear protective masks after they say a man lied about having coronavirus symptoms to visit his pregnant wife.

Officials at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, say a man who was feeling sick attempted to obscure his COVID-19 symptoms, so he could see his pregnant wife, who was in the hospital’s maternity ward.

The man admitted he was sick when his wife began displaying COVID-19 symptoms after giving birth.

Following the incident, officials with the University of Rochester Medical Center and Rochester Regional Health hospitals, of which Strong Memorial as a part, announced that, beginning Tuesday, universal masking procedures will take effect.

A man who had been exposed to the coronavirus and who was himself feeling sick hid his symptoms from the staff at a New York hospital so he could join his expectant wife in the maternity center.


He confessed only when his wife began to show symptoms of COVID-19 shortly after giving birth at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The incident, which occurred in the last week, is a fresh example of the need for extreme caution – and honesty – when it comes to the highly communicable virus.

It's these kind of selfish idiots that make every crisis worse. He better hopes that not only his wife and baby will get through this fine but also the hospital staff and every person they came into contact with as well.

5. Some people are in deep denial

Like my mom for example, who now admits she even lost her sense of taste during her 2 week "allergic reaction." She gets super upset and offended and demands to know why I would even think that she had/has coronavirus. Ummm... I dunno, we did just return from international traveling and a freaking cruise, ffs. Not to mention, passing through JFK airport on March 12.
