I'm embarrassed that some need to be told this, but DO NOT BUY INTO THE MEDIA'S BULLSHIT!

Trump's "tone", and whether or not it has changed, is IRRELEVANT, people! It doesn't mean diddly-shit!

If his incompetence kills hundreds of thousands of us, does it matter what "tone" he affected when he lied to us about how bad it was and how terrible it was going to get?

Do not watch him! Do not listen to him! Do not believe one damn word that he or his people say!

Publicity is his oxygen. Let him suffocate at his damn podium!

Trump saw polling and heard political advisors warning that if too many died while he dithered, it might cost him his re election. THAT is what he cares about! So, he's heeding that old Hollywood advice: "It's all about sincerity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made!"

The "humble" act that he was putting on for the media and the rest of us made me want to vomit. It was thoroughly disgusting.

The only time he is sincere is when he is talking about what a "genius" he is or when he is spewing hatred. This morning I read that 'changed tone' was deliberate with Trump boasting he could get one over on the media. Sounds as if the media has taken the bait.

There's only one tone/pitch/message from Donald: Me, Me, Me.

This recent media interpretation is similar to 'the pivot' serious people were anticipating, the moment Trump would emerge as presidential.

Never happened, never will.

Hillary Clinton called it 4 years ago--what you see is what you get when it comes to Donald Trump. He was a sorry excuse for a man when he ran in 2016, a petty, vindictive ignoramus. He's the same sorry ass man we see today.

If I were the editor of a news organization, the coverage on Trump would be 1/200th of the time they spend on him now. The reason my coverage of him would be so low is because that is all the time he spends saying anything of value. The rest is just blather and BS. When i say of "value", I mean newsworthy, not necessarily valuable to the country.

Wed Apr 1, 2020, 10:08 AM
Apr 2020

My big question is this:

They are now publicly estimating 1-200,000 deaths. Are they lying so they can come back and say, we only had 88,000 deaths so we are great heroes and have been very successful?

Or are they soft peddling the numbers to maintain our morale, when they really estimate that results could be much higher?

In any case, their change of message and tone is now laying the ground work to say that the deaths were caused by the people not following their guidelines. It won't matter a whit if their guidelines came a month late, after the horse was, not only out of the barn, but out of the damn county and still at a full gallop. They are going to try to pin the die-off on the people rather than the leadership; a cowards path.

Trump is going to claim that a large part of the problem was because he didn't inherit enough equipment to deal with the problem. That can be countered by pointing out that if he knew we did not have the tools to deal with the crisis, then why did he wait so damn long to take any effective actions? He could have told us very early on that, "Your very life depends on social distancing, because we do not have the tools to deal with a massive outbreak, if we don't shut down and you don't stay in." He could have then taken the hard steps to enforce the declaration. It is just another example of a failure of leadership.

We are going to have to hold the Administration fully accountable for the massive death toll, (and a hundred thousand is massive) and we have examples of countries that did a far better job because they had far better leadership, with leadership is the only variable.

I think back to the dark days of WWII when Churchill told his people, " “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.” His nation did not have to question his veracity or his hidden motives. When Trump faced a national crisis, he told us that the coming disaster was a hoax directed against him personally. That is the difference between a leader and a failure.

The next 2 weeks still only includes 2 days beyond Easter April 12th. I've noticed that many people have impression that he is predicting we will see up to 200,000 dead by 2 weeks as it peaks then and comes back down, so many people will misinterpret the prediction and think we are doing better if we haven't reached that many deaths in 2 weeks.

So, no he still isn't credible and is still trying to whitewash his failures to lead the federal response.

He has figured out reality - and is messaging in a way that will keep his followers locke to him. Even though the death toll will be enormous, Trumpets will believe his new story - he was messaging hope a few days ago because it wasn't certain to occur (and it is only occurring now because impeachment, governors, anyone other than him). Because he is giving a worst-case scenario, the idiot-in-chief will look good to the sheep-idots when it turns out to be not quite as bad as he was predicting yesterday, and he can claim credit for the turn-around.

He is extremely good at this - so we treat it as irrelevant at our peril. Just as we treated his candidacy as a joke to the country's detriment.

I mostly work with conservative men, who insist on watching his daily rally pep rally at work. Slowly they are recognizing trump for what he is. It’s taken them years, but they are finally realizing what we all know.
trump is his own worse enemy, his need for daily affirmations during his briefings will be his kryptonite.

only change he is capable of making is the method he uses to con his victims. That change is often dictated by circumstances - in this instance his plummeting poll numbers combined with craven ego. I will never contribute to feeding the beast by watching his shit show.

Sorry for insulting slime molds.

You are exactly right. Really this is why I don’t watch tv. I haven’t for years; it’s bad enough just reading what the tv media says.

As Allen Ginsberg said, “Whoever controls the media, the images, controls the culture”.

bullshit?

The media is who keeps calling the bluff on Trump, fact checking him, giving us the real facts that we get on what's going on. Where we all are getting any truth at all is from the media.

If you aren't using the media what are you using? If it weren't for media sources 80% of what appears here wouldn't get posted.

The only thing I question is a blanket accusation*. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.

*the exception: everything out of the White house is 90% bullshit.

media's recent obsession with Trump's "change of tone". It cannot be fairly characterized as an attack on "the media" in general and no one else has.

No apology is necessary for "hurting my feelings". If I could not withstand snark I certainly would not be posting on a political discussion board.

The press needs to stop all coverage of the gop death panel as someone here called it. They won’t so we need to stop watching it live at least. If you watch any news it is hard to avoid snippets of it later.

All he cares about is spinning this epidemic to make him look good. He is only thinking of himself and his re election chances. When this is over, he is going to claim--IN THE MEDIA--that he conquered this 9/11 like disaster, then he'll pretend, along with foxnews and other republicans that the first two months never happened. Trump is addicted to media attention, that's why he never shuts up!!! I do hope no one in his family is sick though.
