Trump's afternoon COVID-19 press events are becoming more and more tiresome, as he repeats the same nonsense he's been saying for days on end. In Trump's case, familiarity definitely breeds contempt.
He went on for almost two hours, yesterday, droning on and on, stupidly and with his usual inarticulate word salad style.
He thinks, apparently, that these events are campaign rallies. He insults media people, contradicts what his experts say, and generally comports himself poorly throughout.
He is losing supporters the longer he rails on about "blocking the Chinese at the border, and then Europe, and even England and the UK." It wasn't that long ago, and we remember all that, Donwald. It didn't work, now, did it?
So, do go on please. I've tuned away already. Please proceed...

(11,631 posts)But I've been working under the "let the fool speak and show what he is" theory for 3 years. Surely the more people hear this loathsome ignorant buffoon his numbers will decline. They haven't. You can fool some of the people ALL the time. Unfortunately it appears some is around 42%.
We need to counter his BS constantly. Sitting back and waiting for self-destruction won't work.

Even people I know to be otherwise smart.

(146,286 posts)It's a time of day for us to begin winding down and relaxing. My wife can't stop yelling at Trump on the TV. So, yesterday, I suggested switching channels, and we did. Much better.
Trump is simply intolerable. Even his supporters can only take so much of the stupid man's prattle.

(39,343 posts)He doesn't want people who only watch the news in the evening to see what's really happening. He wants people to see him and either believe him or turn it off. He doesn't want people to see local stories followed by a half hour of national bad news for him.

Like with the Stock Market, let his ratings drop lk,e a ton of rocks. I switched to the History Channel yesterday.

(118,274 posts)You: No, he's just stupid
Me: Stupid people can have strokes, too
Me: I've been thinking maybe years of snorting coke damaged his self-control
You: No, he's just a bully
Me: Well, y'know, bullies get brain damage from snorting coke, just like other people
Me: I wonder if he has terminal untreated syphilis
You: No, he's just a stupid bully
Me: Yeah, well, stupid bullies can suffer from untreated syphilis. It's too bad we don't have better medical insurance in the country
Me: I still wonder if a stroke and untreated syphilis have aggravated brain damage caused by drug abuse
You: I still think he's just a stupid bully
Me: Y'know, he could be a stupid bully who damaged his brain through drug abuse, failed to get his syphilis treated, and then had a stroke. There's something wrong with him, anyway. Normal people don't act like that. I sure hope he can get the help he needs.
Me: Maybe a little vacation would do him good. Do you think her could hunting with Cheney?
You: I still he would still be a stupid bully

best to not go down that road. she's not and that's that.

(5,810 posts)Medical or technical nature. As if he really knows and understands the first thing about either subject. And when he lets a real expert (Dr. Fauci) come to the podium, he stands there nodding like he understands everything Fauci is saying. Bull pucky. (Than you Rachel M.). He cannot tolerate anyone else getting attention longer than him, so he has to interject himself or his opinion into everything.
Of late, I find myself looking at Food Network, QVC, TCM......anything besides his daily rallies/pep squad. I got so mad at Dr. Birx one day I screamed at her via the tv. I understand she has simply adopted the kiss the ring strategy to get him on their side. But damn, woman! Do you have to slather it on so thick??? It was just disgusting to hear her praising him as if he had the intellect and training of the experts on stage. He doesnt have the sense god gave a goat but he acts like he is Einstein, daVinci, Newton, Salk and Hawking all rolled into one. So I watch Just enough of the briefing to get the gist of it and then go back to lighter fare. It is much better for my blood pressure and overall mental health.

(115,669 posts)I can't watch him at all, ever. For starters it's not just that he's painful to look at because he's so butt-ugly - they say politics is show business for ugly people so ugly is nothing new - he's a special, abnormal sort of ugly because he intentionally does things to make himself even uglier while obviously thinking they make him look studly. And then there's his awful, awful voice. It's like a thousand fingernails on the world's largest blackboard. It's whiny and nasal and absurdly high-pitched for someone his size; he sounds like a peevish castrato. And that's even before we get to the content. He lies so often and so fluently that, although my personal spiritual beliefs do not include such possibilities, I nevertheless almost expect a bolt of lightning to streak down from the heavens and turn his fat ass into a big lump of overcooked bacon. To watch that sorry orange excuse for a human being defile the office of the presidency while people who should fucking know better stand behind him and bobble their heads, vacant-eyed and servile, is just unbearable.
Thanks for reporting back. I just can't do it.

If they bought into his inarticulate bullshit before, there's no reason to assume that they will not continue to do so.
We don't need, however, a very large segment in swing states to defeat him. We only need a few. If only a small fraction of these racists change their mind about this stupid man, we're done with his criminal ass and it will fall to history to rip him up.

When we get too sure of ourselves, we send the message "we got this," and that's all it takes for people to stay home in November.

(7,430 posts)Trump's presidency is proof that people, MILLIONS of people do not care whether Trump is making sense, whether he's telling the truth, lying, or fantasizing. Whether he's boring, nonsensical, incoherent, vicious, narcissistic, or purely evil does not compel his followers to abandon him. The loosely described "law" of marketing in media do not apply to Trump. He will have his base, and he'll keep it.
I do get "romantic" myself, surmising on occasion that the American public has more common sense than to follow Trump down the road to ruin. But that perspective denies the reality of the Cult. Trump can stand before the nation buck naked and shit on stage, and his followers will come to believe that Trump is out-front with a new reality of human communications. So Trump can continue with his idiocy on a daily basis and NEVER suffer a drop of support from his cultists. If Trump were to drop dead with a fatal stroke or aneurysm, his cultist followers will elevate him to martyr/sainthood status, or even refuse to believe that he actually died. Conventional assumptions about human intelligence have to be abandoned in order to understand the scope of crazy that Trump engenders.
