Adam Schiff Will Investigate Trump's Coronavirus Response

Adam Schiff Will Investigate Trump’s Coronavirus Responce

by Jason Easley at PoliticusUSA

https://www.politicususa.com/2020/04/01/adam-schiff-trump-coronavirus-investigation.html

"SNIP.....

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) said that discussions have begun on a 9/11 Commission style investigation into Trump’s coronavirus response.

Via The Washington Post:

Schiff, a California Democrat, told me in an interview Monday that his staff has already started working on a discussion draft modeled after the 9/11 Commission, and that he would be talking about the possibility with others in Congress. And he said the House Intelligence Committee, which he chairs, has begun reviewing the committee’s intelligence materials on the pandemic.

“We will need to delay the work of the commission until the crisis has abated to ensure that it does not interfere with the agencies that are leading the response,” Schiff explained in an email. “But that should not prevent us from beginning to identify where we got it wrong and how we can be prepared for the next pandemic.”
.

Republicans are going to immediately howl that Schiff is out to get Trump with another “witch hunt,” but their claims will not be true.

over the country the last 2 months and enable trump

lawrence odonell just used his bully pulpit to blame fox with no mention of fox's big brother talk radio

all he had to do was mention limbaugh's bullshit, like the freepress org petition to the FCC for an investigation into the disinformation, which included a small sample of limbaugh quotes. hundreds of radio stations licensed to operate in the public interest have been following the llimbaugh lead in denying covid for 2 months.

the owner of those stations need to lose their licenses

... and they haven't quit lying since they started. 2 months... 2 months, by mid-January the world knew what was coming and so did Trump & his cronies. They held private meetings, committed insider trading for them and their best buddies, no national emergency or powers placed in effect, competing w/ states over precious supplies while allowing their buddies to price-gouge critical needs materials, supplies, medication, and equipment. Impeach and imprison the lot of them.

Right now, Democrats only have to sit back and let Trump destroy his chances. Give him the rope because he's hanging himself weekly, nearly daily.

But you start these proceedings now and it will look petty and exploitative. The nation is hungry for real leadership, not political maneuvering. I was wondering how the party was going to find a way to fritter away their current advantage and this would be it.

It is way too soon in this pandemic to start this.

EDIT TO ADD:
After reading a couple of various sources it seems evident Schiff is at least cagey enough to hold off on this for a while. This slow-motion, widespread tragedy is going to take a long time to play out and any presumptive moves are going to come off as craven.

“What did Trump do wrong, and is any of it illegal?”, then it will backfire. If it’s run to answer the question “what went wrong, and what can we do the in the future to handle it better”, then there won’t be any backfire because no one will talk about the investigation at all.

I suspect the target will be the first question, and that this investigation will only be in the news in the run up to the election. After that, it will fade away.

threatening a full force campaign to blame the spread of the coronavirus on Schiff's impeachment hearings
distracting the WH from fully undertaking steps to stop the pandemic. This was red meat for Schiff to fight back,
as only Schiff can, to open up an investigation into Trump's coronavirus performance from day one.
