There are people who are offering to make grocery store runs for older people. I am 70 years old, retired and living alone, but I will get my own groceries. I am not going to ask somebody else to expose themselves to that health hazard for me. I will get my own groceries. But, to those of you who are making that offer, thank you very much, and I do appreciate it. Let's all hope and pray for a vaccine, soon. And all the other stuff, PPE, ventilators, everybody behaving responsibly, not foolishly and stupidly like the college students on beaches at spring break.

(9,291 posts)own groceries. Did it online, told where I parked. Cost 5 bucks, plus tip.
I was pleased, way too many cars were parked in the parking lot.
Just something to consider, if available.

(16,377 posts)I always offer to pick up stuff for my neighbor across the street. I am 63 but she is older and it is safer for me to go. It really paid off for me. The other day I got her a dozen eggs and when she tried to pay me back I only asked for a roll of toilet paper because I was actually getting low since I won't bulk buy. She ended up putting a big brown paper bag full of toilet paper rolls on my front porch! I was so delighted. We both got what we needed. Win-win.

(24,223 posts)there is no shame in letting someone help.
You stay safe and give them a good deed done.
Two people out shopping when one can do the job will keep us all safe too, not just you.

(11,457 posts)We just had a big fight because he is going to Costco tomorrow wont let me go, I shopped last time, he probably misses it. But we had fight because he doesnt take it as seriously as me.
He will wash his hands and take shoes off but not before he has touched a bunch of stuff in house. We went for dog walk few days ago and he stopped to talk to lady for 5-10 min only 2 ft away. I am the one who wipes off pkgs and mail.
Its like in front of me he half ass makes attempts so I dont trust him to go to store alone and wear mask and take off clothes and shower right away and stay as far from people in store as you can.
I am scared he will bring it to me, that he will get it. He has past lung issues and my immune system was pretty beat up last year.
There must be tons of families where someone in family isnt trying as hard and its creating problems.
Hes telling me I need to stop worrying about it bad for my blood pressure, he is right but I cant control him and he could get us sick.
He wont read about virus like me so he hasnt read how scary it is and how easy it is to get it.

(33,342 posts)Tell him if he goes out, you'll lock the door and he can come back in after 19 days of isolation.
( 5 day incubation period, 14 days of virus growth ).

(33,342 posts)Except for the motel room; I have a couple of old vehicles that are suitable to sleep in.
It may sound like I'm joking, but I'm not. Neither is the virus.

(2,231 posts)husband works in medical relief, is strident in his work environment. when he comes home, I have to tell him, wash your hands, change your clothes. he brings the mail in with no regard for virus living on the paper, or packages. I asked him if they are wiping down mail at work, "of course ", says he.
I now, wipe down the mail. and put it back in the wiped down mailbox. I am doing everything I can to keep this house safe. he is the only one who leaves and returns.
it's like reminding a little kid to brush their teeth every single day.

(8,703 posts)Or you can pick up? I am done going into stores. The last time (about a month ago )I was in a Walmart -a guy in the next aisle had a horrible coughing fit( he was gagging) that lasted minutes. That made me get out of that store fast. Some drs are now saying 6 ft is not far enough away for aerosols.

(11,986 posts)For one supermarket, the nearest available time was two weeks away. In other cases, no time is available, and you have to keep logging in hoping to strike at the right moment.

(3,473 posts)So if they happen to be out of stock on something you need during your delivery window, you are sol.

(3,469 posts)I tried again today, earliest deliver time was next Tuesday night. Screw that. Hopped in the car, drove to Ralphs and was home 1/2 hour later with all the groceries I'll need for another week. The only thing they didn't have was decent selection of meat so tomorrow I'll take a quick trip to the better Ralphs and pick up some chicken and steaks there. Oh and of course they didn't have TP but they did have Kleenex again, so things continue to look brighter!

(8,922 posts)I'm using both Walmart and Harris Teeter. Teeter waives the $4.95 pick up fee for customers 60+. Order on line and then they bring them out to your car. There is no need to go inside the stores right now if you use this service. Food Lion does it too, haven't tried theirs yet.

(12,153 posts)I can drive and get around with a walker. A college girl comes to run the vacuum once a week and said she'd shop for groceries for mr. froggy and me, but I don't want her to take any more chances than she has to with the virus, so I'll get my own food and tp. She's doing everything she can to avoid getting it, and so am I.
