Coronavirus in Europe: Spain's death toll hits 10,000 after record 950 new deaths in 24 hours
By Euronews with AP • last updated: 02/04/2020 - 14:29

The number of dead in Spain from coronavirus has now risen above 10,000, according to the latest health authority figures published on Thursday.

It's a new record for the country, with 950 deaths in the last 24 hours.

... However, the infection rate appeared to ease. Health authorities say contagion in Spain has dropped from a daily average of 20% until March 25 to less than 12% after that date, more than 10 days after Spaniards were ordered to stay home. But the government has acknowledged that the real number of infections could be much higher due to limited testing.

You can't just look at the number of deaths, you have to take population into the account. LisaL Apr 2020 #2

250 deaths total. Yes one to many but considering the rest of the EU, they are doing very well.

It's like saying US is doing great, because our death rate per population is still low enough. Using your logic, US is doing better than Sweden (well, at least as of yesterday).

At the end of the day that’s what matters most especially to families. Testing positive and recovery has is awesome but the deaths are permanent. I can’t remember how many tested positive for H1N1 but know 18,000 died. I hope both United States, Sweden and every other country stop having deaths. That’s for the best option.

Again, using your logic, US is doing better than Sweden. Is US doing well? If one country has 100,000 people and 100,000 died, and another country has 1000,000 people and 500,000 died, you argument would be that 100,000 dead people is better than 500,000 dead people, even though in the first country, everybody is freaking dead.

So no, Sweden is not doing well.

Researchers at Karolinska, some of whom are my friends, are begging the government to get out of its stupor and to take action.
