I went to Walmart this morning to get mask supplies. (Yeah, I hate Walmart too, but it was my only option for what I needed.)
They had a LOT of toilet paper right at the entrance. I think they were limiting quantities, but I think soon the toilet paper shortage will just be a memory.
How are things where you live?

(3,527 posts)here in small town Ontario. I grabbed ONE 8 pack and saw many others also limiting themselves. Hopefully the panic hoarding is over. And hopefully some people feel pretty stupid and selfish in 2-3 months.

(3,332 posts)Just individual rolls. One per person.
ProfessorGAC
(64,992 posts)Normal 9, 12, and 24 roll packs.
But one per customer.
Now if the disinfectant wipes people can get their act together, we'll be in better shape.
I'm giving a pass to the hand sanitizer makers.
I've been in the plants that make the 2 most popular brands.
Their production is simply not sized to react to a 3000% increase in demand. They're already 24/7, so overtime won't help. The mixing vessels are only so big & the bottling units only run so fast.
TP & disinfectant wipes are HUGE operations. (I've been in manufacturing sites that make the latter, and have driven by places that make TP & PT)
So those places responded too slowly. The hand sanitizer people are handcuffed by scale.

(2,534 posts)I get Charmin and Clorox wipes on recurring Amazon delivery. UPS driver rang the doorbell to make it a confirmed delivery. He shared they were under orders for deliveries including the Clorox to be signed for which he had never seen before. He shared he was on a hunt last weekend for wipes himself and visited several stores before finding any. I offered him one (of three in my order) but he said he was good for now. So TP isnt the scarce commodity here but disinfecting wipes are.

(2,534 posts)The driver said he needed signature but took my photo in the doorway as confirmation. Or maybe it was of the packages on the stoop. In any case we did not make direct contact. And the boxes went they the protocol on entry.

Good luck on those mask.
(Reminds me of the tp in a campground in Ireland - they were like those square sheets you use to grab pastries/donuts from the case. In fact they may have been just that.)

(72,300 posts)I don't think so.

(8,445 posts)I just don't think lining my cookie sheets with tp is going to work out well.
Thanks about the masks. I specifically went for pipe cleaners because a video I watched said to use them. The first one didn't work out at all, so I had to take it out. I'm going to use the little metal piece from super cheap face masks I already had on hand. I had bought one pack of face masks at dollar tree a long time ago, and they were too chintzy to be effective, but I can use the metal nose thingies and the elastic for the masks I'm making.
I used this mask instruction: https://leahday.com/pages/how-to-make-a-face-mask-free-pattern
Edited to add: I made the first one out of a t-shirt I no longer wanted. For the elastic, I cut a strip of t-shirt material that I then stretched so it would curl up. It worked out great.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)Nice idea about the tee shirt.
Rorey
(8,445 posts)Because the t-shirt material doesn't really unravel, it worked pretty well, and it's basically free. There was NO elastic in the store.

I didn't see any personally but I went late and only to supermarkets. I heard from many who shopped earlier that it's back and in great supply paticularly at Target, WM, etc. One cashier told me they had a big shipment in that AM and that his theory was that the hoarders had run out of money and storage space.

(50,260 posts)I was happy. I picked up 2 packages of Scott toilet paper as a last resort when this started and the stuff is awful. It's so thin it's the closest thing you can get to using no toilet paper at all.

(8,445 posts)The WANTED that thin Scott stuff. I guess their sewer lines couldn't handle the "real" stuff.

(6,496 posts)Past noon time they start running out. They still aren't getting stocked up with what was their typical amount of toilet paper. They are also limiting sales to one pack per customer, which is a bit annoying in that I also have to shop for my MIL at the same time and she also wants toilet paper. Once I ran back inside just to get her toilet paper. Went through a different line. Not everyone trying to buy two packs of toilet paper is hoarding. I wish they'd let us do that if we can produce an id for the other person or something. I was told they are going to do 100 people in the store at once starting today, which will making shopping even more inconvenient. That's going to suck if she wants toilet paper too because I'll have to get in that long line all over again just to buy her toiler paper. She can't drive herself right now because she is in too much pain. Waiting for a diagnosis still, but it sounds like she has cancer. Actually, they next time I go, I think I will call in advance and ask if I can purchase toilet paper for her also if I have her id. Maybe they'd let me do that.

(82,383 posts)Still cleaned out at one and had some at the other with a limit.
Paper towels cleaned out at one and abundant at the other.
Peanut butter cleaned out at another.
Sanitizer type products still cleaned out at both.

(56,828 posts)last SUnday and they had TP, Paper Towels and Lysol Spray there - I think it was 1 of each for customers. TP was a 12 pack of Quilted Northern, so 1-2 weeks supply for a family of 3

(8,445 posts)Last week I found a can when I was cleaning the garage. It's not something I usually buy, but I had an unfortunate incident in one of my rentals last year, so I got some and it was in with my rental cleaning supplies. I also found some hospital grade disinfectant that I had forgotten about. It was a gift from one of biohazardous waste companies that I dealt with at the time.

(56,828 posts)Had gone to Costco right when they opened on Saturday morning and they were already out of TP 45 minutes before the story officiall opened. I've seen pictures online of other Costcos that have pallettes full of TP at their stores, but not New Britain, CT

(3,276 posts)in a small town in SWNC has been out of toilet paper every time I've been there, for weeks. I did get a roll of paper towels there last week.
But the Family Dollar store next door to the grocery store had some TP in stock this afternoon - store brand, Angel Soft, and Charmin. I didn't see a sign that they were limiting quantities, but I bought one 9-pack of Charmin. I live alone, so that should last me a good long while.

(7,460 posts)Target was completely wiped out (no pun intended) on *any* paper products and Giant is pretty much the same. Walmart had some paper towels but not much.
And I don't see the logic in limiting people to one *roll* if you're trying to keep people from going out shopping (much the same as I don't understand officials telling people to only buy a week or two's worth of food but also telling them "Stay out of the stores of else you or someone else WILL DIE"...but that's another matter)
